  • New Year's Dash - Unanimous Decision #165
Welcome to 2020, and join Chad and myself as we dance on the grave of the Patriots. The original Dude You Podcast team is back to kick off the New Year with thoughts on the dearly departed David Stern, what a Michael Jordan documentary means in 2020, all things NFL coaching changes, and of course, a healthy dose of UGA football. We recorded this BEFORE the Saints did what they did, but I'm sure you know how I feel about that game yesterday...

  • Black Tuesday - Unanimous Decision #164
Welcome to the final UDPod of 2019, and boy what a couple of weeks it's been. LeBron turned 35, Georgia High Schools greenlit girl's flag football, the BCS was proven right again, and a bunch of folks got fired. Maybe not enough people (glares at Atlanta, laughs at Dallas), but until Kriss gives me the pink slip, I'm gonna be here giving you piping hot sports takes until Galactus gets hungry!

  • Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker - Movie Trailer Reviews
Kriss, Ro and Brandon review Star Wars Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. This is the end of the new Star Wars trilogy and there is a lot of film here. This movie is a sprint. There is a ton of action, a ton of story and a lot of elements going on. Some will say that J.J. Abrams "undid" a lot of what Rian Johnson produced in The Last Jedi but we didn't see it that way. Obviously there are some elements that didn't fully connect because there were two different directors, but The Rise of Skywalker definitely carries on a lot of the story built up in The Last Jedi.
The biggest problem with Star Wars has always been that the fan base of Star Wars has always enjoyed the concept of Star Wars and not really what's shown in the movies. The Rise of Skywalker does a lot of "showing" instead of "telling" with force powers and even giving us more background on the Sith. It's not a perfect film and the sheer volume of information in this film makes it a lot to process. But overall, audiences should enjoy it.

  • Patriot Games - Unanimous Decision #163
We're back and we're wondering who watches the watchmen these days? Why is it so fulfilling to watch a racist get his jaw broken, and did baseball just become cool under our noses? Plus, can you believe the Patriots are filming the Bengals before a game? All this, and Justin and I get to laugh at the return of Lane Kiffin to the SEC.

  • Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
A couple weeks ago there was a source saying that WB is struggling to figure out what to do with Superman in their movies because they're struggling to make a "relatable story". Meanwhile, over at WB TV and the Arrowverse, they just gave us 3 Superman (and one Supergirl), all that are super relatable and embody what Superman is all about. Crisis on Infinite Earths, this years big Arrowverse crossover has been one big lovefest for the fans of the characters. The first 3 parts have shown just how ridiculous the problems WB apparently has had bringing DC characters to the big screen are. There's so much to love in these first three parts and that doesn't even include all the cameos they've had. Here are some of the things we talk about on our review:

    * How does WB plan on selling an Ezra Miller Flash movie when Grant Gustin is clearly the definitive Barry Allen? Between the conversation Barry has with Iris and the one he has with Jefferson Pierce, this is it. This is Barry Allen. Miller's interpretation is never going to come close so why even try?
    * Speaking of Flash's, even John Wesley Shipp's fate as Barry Allen from Earth-90 was so good and another solid understanding of the character that the movies have yet to realize
    * Not one. Not two. But THREE Supermen in various stages that all nailed the Man of Steel. Bryan Singer had Brandon Routh as Superman and squandered it.
    * Kevin Conroy showing how to do a Bruce Wayne that lost hope and went dark better than any "Snydercut" ever could
    * Oliver Queen becoming the Spectre? Oh you beautiful bastards keep having surprises up your sleeves
    * Ruby Rose still can't act but pairing her up with Melissa Benoist is clearly the winning combination and is a great spin on the Batman/Superman relationship
    * All the cameos and more

Sit back and listen as the Super Tuesday crew discuss the first 3 parts of this big crossover and we will see you back for the finale in January!

  • Jumanji The Next Level - Movie Trailer Reviews
Jumanji The Next Level is proof that lightning can strike in the same place twice. The sequel to the unlikely hit of 2017 is just as much fun as its predecessor and it’s due to the fact that this film knows exactly what it is at all times. Welcome to the Jungle made $962 million dollars for Sony in 2017. With that kind of success, it would have been real easy for Sony and director Jake Kasdan to just go back to the same well and “do it all over again” in a cheap attempt at a money grab. Instead, Kasdan leaned into the ridiculousness of Jumanji, gave the actors new dynamics to play with and in the end made a film that’s just as much (if not more) fun than the original.

Just like the 2017 film, what works for the Jumanji The Next Level are the actors who play the “Avatars”:

    * Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Smolder Bravestone
    * Kevin Hart as Franklin “Mouse” Finbar
    * Jack Black as Professoor Sheldon Oberon
    * Karen Gillain as Ruby Roundhouse

The wrinkle in the film this time is that the avatars are now swapped. So instead of Hart’s Finbar begin the avatar for Fridge, he’s the avatar for Milo (played by Danny Glover). Jack Black is now Fridge’s avatar. And Dwayne Johnson gets to do a really terrible (but hilarious) accent to be the avatar for Danny DeVito’s Eddie. It had a whole new dynamic with Johnson and Hart once again playing off of each other and big completely ridiculous. There are some other really great switches and cameos but those would be spoilers (our spoiler review will be coming soon).

There's not really much else to say about this film. Audiences of the first will find this extremely enjoyable. With all the heaviness of some of the Oscar season movies and the upcoming fight over Star Wars, Jumanji: The Next Level provides a reprieve from both with some great comedy and a great time at the cinema.

MTR Premium members, keep an eye on this page as we will be adding the spoiler review for this film in a couple days. So stay tuned!

  • Prelude to Crisis: The Flash S6E8 & Arrow S8E7 Reviews - Super Tuesday Recap
Crisis is just about here and so we decided to combine the reviews for The Flash S6E8 and Arrow S8E7 into one episode. Since both shows have been leading up to the inevitable Crisis, we figured it best to just do them as one big episode. On The Flash, the team learns to trust themselves and work together to stop Bloodwork and the infected Barry. It's a good example of how far the team has come and forcing them to believe in themselves. On Arrow, Oliver confronts the final bits of his past to ensure he's no longer the same man he used to be. Arrow has done a great job of showing us how far Oliver has come while also building up the other character to move on in the Canaries pilot. It took 8 seasons but Laurel is finally a Black Canary we can get behind and the last few episodes have had her and Oliver team up. It's a great development for the character that caught so much backlash in earlier seasons (for good reason sometimes).
We also discuss what we expect to see in the crossover (Still can't believe they're actually doing this on the CW) and the future of both shows after. Give it a listen.

  • Supergirl S5E8 Review We Stand With Melissa - Super Tuesday Recap
We are back for the episode that predates the finale to discuss...WHUT?  Perhaps it is because The Doctor isn't watching the other shows but that set up felt a bit off.  That said, the episode was enjoyable.  You get us warbling some old tv ads and strange tie ins, the discussion of Lena being deliciously petty, Alex's Hot 16, the BS that was the resolution of the J'onn/Malefic storyline, and Kara desperately trying to save Lena from herself.  We also discuss Melissa Benoist's recent Instagram post where she reveals she was the victim of domestic partner violence, a situation that has left her with permanent eye damage and explains a LOT about how she would present in interviews in the early seasons of the show.  We are with you Melissa and are happy that you found happiness, love, and safety finally.
