The BMC has started repair work on nearly 60% of the roads that have been planned this year. Work has already begun on 295 roads, while repairs on the remaining 210 roads will take time. This is because the ‘no objection certificate from traffic police will be issued in a staggered manner to avoid traffic piles up, officials said. To improve the quality of roads, the civic body is focusing more on the construction of cement concrete roads.

To make local train journeys safer in the city and to keep an eye on untoward incidents such as stone-pelting, the Central Railway and Western Railway are set to install upgraded Closed Circuit Televisions inside and outside the motorman cabin of the local trains. The cameras will record the footage of the local trains during their operation to monitor incidents like rail fracture, derailment, stone-pelting, etc. which can be later used by the Railway Protection Force for investigation. After keeping first-year junior college (FYJC) aspirants waiting for weeks, officials from the school directorate confirmed that mock registrations will begin on May 23. The mock registrations were originally supposed to begin in the first week of May. Following a week of the mock form filling process, the process of registration for admissions will likely begin on May 28.

Mumbai The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is set to refurbish newly-engineered bus shelters at 200 different locations across the city. These bus shelters are being set up in a bid to declutter the existing footpaths and to improve walkability on roads. Senior officials said that these shelters will use lesser space than the conventional metallic bus stops of the BEST and will be visually attractive as well. In order to control localized floods, the BMC has started work on four mini pumping stations at Mahalaxmi, P D'Mello Road, Wadala and Chunabhatti. As of now, there are six big pumping stations at Lovegrove, Cleveland Bunder, Haji Ali, Irla, Britannia, and Gazdarband to pump out excess water from big nullahs into the sea in case of heavy rain and high tide. Mumbai has 3.9 lakh eligible 12-15 population, of which 1,00,534 (25.7%) have taken their first dose and 24,380 (6.25%) have taken both doses of the vaccine to date.
