Comenzamos explorando dos estupendas y nuevas recopilaciones que nos traen añejas y sabrosas músicas de Guinea y Zimbabue, para rendir después homenaje a un buen número de artistas que nos han dejado recientemente, como el gallego Emilio Cao; de nuevo el irlandés Alan Griffin, con el disco póstumo que le dedica su grupo Alboka, desde el País Vasco; el cantaor extremeño Ramón el Portugués; el clarinetista griego Petroloukas Halkias, y el artista judeo-yemení Aharon Amram.

We begin by exploring two excellent and new compilations that bring us vintage and flavorful music from Guinea and Zimbabwe, and then pay tribute to a good number of artists who have recently passed away, such as the Galician Emilio Cao; once again the Irish Alan Griffin, with the posthumous album dedicated to him by his group Alboka, from the Basque Country; the flamenco singer from Extremadura Ramón el Portugués, the Greek clarinetist Petroloukas Halkias, and the Judeo-Yemeni artist Aharon Amram.

Abrimos con los tres discos favoritos de Mundofonías de junio del 2025, que firman los proyectos internacionales Marc Crofts Klezmer Ensemble y Assafir, que nos traen aires klezmer y del Mediterráneo oriental, así como el nuevo trabajo del artista de raíces mandingas Kaabi Kouyaté. Continuamos con sorprendentes músicas de Bretaña y otras tierras francesas aledañas, con referencias que llegan también a Cuba, Europa oriental y, de nuevo, el África occidental. Por allí recalamos, en Nigeria, para acabar en el Pacífico colombiano.

We begin with the three Mundofonías favorite albums of June 2025, presented by the international projects Marc Crofts Klezmer Ensemble and Assafir, bringing us klezmer airs and sounds from the Eastern Mediterranean, along with the new album of Mandingo-rooted artist Kaabi Kouyaté. We continue with stunning music from Brittany and other nearby French territories, with references also reaching Cuba, Eastern Europe, and once again West Africa. From there, we stop by Nigeria before ending up on Colombia’s Pacific coast.

Tras una escala en Buenos Aires, nuestro destino musical está en Italia, con conexiones norteafricanas y, de nuevo, ibéricas.

We review new albums that take us on a journey through Celtic sounds, from Scotland, North America and Poland. Across Iberian lands we hear songs in Catalan and Spanish, then leap into the heart of the Amazon, to dance to cumbia in Peru, and sing indigenous chants in Brazil. After a stop in Buenos Aires, our musical destination is Italy, with North African and once again Iberian connections.
