Its much easier to kill an annoying, mentally unstable spouse and dispose of the body where no one can find them.

The defence of “Stand Your Ground” is not uncommon.  Using it against a Capital Murder charge whilst offering no evidence you were actually under attack, is a strange tactic.

Screaming at the jury is unlikely to make them sympathetic.  Swearing in Court and being admonished by the Judge would also be a negative mark.
