My Favorite DJ

In this episode I am sharing a promo mix I made in January to help my booker sell me to new clients that may not have heard me before. I like to do these mixes about twice per year. I answer questions at the end of the podcast about press kits, making the move from opener to headliner and how to get management (if you REALLY need it.)

Part 1 of a conversation with a colleague I respect and a human I appreciate. We speak about dialog with managers, playing songs for big spenders and the psychology of DJing. Are DJ’s educators or entertainers? Opening DJ’s and how we deal with openers that are NOT doing what they are supposed to.

Discussing my worst opener moments (not many.) Also diving in to opener etiquette and how I prefer to change over from the opening DJ. Lastly, I discuss something I have seen in artists on social media and I call it "One Day" syndrome. The belief that one day someone will be rich and own expensive things.

In this episode I share an idea about scheduling work I had and have implemented to great success. I answer a question about being bored sometimes when working multiple times a week. I found that the best way to get over that boredom and not take the gigs for granted is to operate from a specific mental space. Are DJ's music prostitutes? I don't think so. I elaborate in the most artistic way possible when I answer questions.

Everyone has a different path. In this podcast, I detail my path as a DJ from the first turntable and mixer I ever bought to the busiest months of travel this year and last year. I did not emphasize how much of a role my mom played in my career. Just know without her support, I would not have been able to do so much my first years (considering I couldn't drive and didn't have a car.) So, thank you mom. I answer a few emailed questions at the end so stick around for that!

I sit down with DJ Anthony Pisano and talk about all of the sectors he's touched in the music business. From DJing to producing to touring, we speak inside of a beautiful studio overlooking the Hollywood hills. The likes of Stevie Wonder and Micheal Jackson have recorded in that same house! A fantastic episode with a close colleague and friend!

With all the attention the podcast has achieved, I want to show off my most favorite mix of all time. When I made this mix, I didn't have the proper channels to make sure it was heard by thousands of people. Now that's changed. If you would like to hear more mixes on the podcast send me an email! I appreciate all of your support. Your screen shots, Instagram stories and messages mean a lot to me. Thank you.
