My Favorite DJ

I wanted to make something for the ladies that enjoy fitness on a regular basis. I wanted to make something for the wives and girlfriends of DJ's that are forced to listen to my podcast on a regular basis by their DJ boyfriends and husbands. I made this for you to share with your girlfriends and for you to enjoy while you get a work out in or lay by the pool thinking about working out.

To my DJ's, I think I will be making all of my future mixes like this one. Straight recording, no Ableton multi-track. If I can't do it live, I won't record it.

A good question comes in asking me what is on my tech rider. I was able to find my old rider from 2010 and I read it out to help those who may be needing that information. I am asked what I wear or what a DJ should wear if they are not into fashion. How I dealt with a song request from a club operator and why I don't have a problem receiving song requests (doesn't mean I will play them.) What happened when Joe Maz and I had massive technical problems while DJing?

Performing over 300 shows a year, Avi Sic has emerged as one of the top open format DJ’s in the country. A producer, remixer and a DJ, Avi Sic is fully invested in her craft. She was also the first female DJ in Chicago to ever hold down a mix show residency for iHeartRadio and KISS FM DJ. I look forward to having her on the podcast when I am in Chicago again!

You can hear why DJ Rowshay got the name because he is such a smooth DJ. Sometimes playing classic hits can become a game of avoiding the obvious and in my opinion Rowshay nails it.

I give my opinion on a discussion that was had on a colleagues Facebook page. There were some comments that jumped out at me and I wanted to share some thoughts on them. A good series of questions got sent in. Do I wear ear plugs? Why or why not? I give some travel tips and let you guys know about a book I want to publish soon. Finally, how to deal with haters or bullies.

Sitting down with my friend that is at the top of his market in North Carolina. DJ Rowshay. We have a conversation about his past, how he transitioned from one career into another. We recap a bit of our experience at the Redbull 3Style battle where we first met. We also talk about being tired from nightshifts, reality TV show ideas and just general DJ banter between friends. Rowshay keeps his Instagram private but don't be discouraged and follow him!

I break down how DJ's are in a field that pays so much per minute. I give an example of how large acts that make MASSIVE amounts of money, don't really get to keep it all. A great set of questions get answered to the best of my ability... How to keep people on the dance floor, how to play when half the crowd likes one style of music and the other half likes a different style. Also! How to ask about getting paid!

I recap my thoughts on DJ's who are looking for management or booking agents to help their career. It won't work. I give my opinion on why. A question about Traktor and what to do if you are a DJ whose market is Serato dominated. DJ Resumes? I tell you why I don't think it's a good idea to be loyal to one club. What to do when the club picks a DJ that brings people over good music.

In this edition My Favorite DJ is DJ A-Run. This mix is a great representation of how a clean flow can stand alone without scratching or crazy tone play. While the mixing is very clean, this mix is technically simple which makes it even HARDER to sound dope. Relying on just the music, this mix is a class in song selection and progression. My favorite part of the mix, I didn't know every track BUT I enjoyed every track. Great work by DJ A-Run!
