Encouraging the saints and ministers gathered at Brother Narain Richard's assembly, Brother Desmond Singh explained that although we enter our services carnally, WORSHIP allows us to focus solely on God. Our emphasis should be an expression like: "Thou are my strength O Lord, my heart trusteth in You!" Present your participation in the opening song as a personal offering of adoration to God—activating your faith. Unless we connect with God, we waste our time being in church. Worship prepares the soil of our hearts to receive the seed of the message under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When the genuine Holy Spirit takes hold of us, the attitude of Jesus—becomes our attitude—including his meekness, gentleness, humility, and longsuffering for those who are not easy to love.

Ironically, God uses human tendencies to distinguish His elect from the religious crowd.  The Jewish establishment rejected Jesus, the prophets, and the apostles due to prejudice. Despite our so-called sophistication today, human nature has not changed. John the Baptist received his training in the wilderness and wore a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Thus, John’s education, dress, and demeanor were enough reason for all (but those whose hearts God touched) to reject his message.

Watering Brother Singh’s lesson from Wednesday, Brother John Mowat gave an in-depth review of Romans Chapter One. He emphasized that Paul,

It is noteworthy that Paul did not start the church in Rome. The longest of Paul’s epistles was addressed to the believers there, whom Paul hoped to visit, “that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end, ye may be established” (Romans 1:11). As we have learned from our studies of the Ephesian church, assemblies must be built on the proper foundation under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

 If God’s people are fickle, they will forsake truth for 'another' more liberal gospel, as did the churches of Galatia. Paganism was rampant in Rome and seeped into the church. Paul warned, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 18:1).

All the New Testament churches founded by the Apostle Paul initially followed him faithfully. But in time, peoples’ fickleness set in, and people became attracted to “other gospels” that compromised the word of God. Writing to the churches of Galatia, he said, “Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father” (Galatians 1:3-4).  So, “Do I truly believe that Jesus gave himself for my sins so that he could deliver me from this ‘present’ evil world.”

Brother Singh welcomes questions from saints living overseas. One such question concerns the church that Jesus started; the one launched at Pentecost, and that church today. In that regard, let us understand that the purpose of the church was to prepare people for God’s coming kingdom.  We must understand that none of the epistles or the words of the prophets were written for us in the 21st Century. Although we can often apply those exhortations to our modern lives, they were addressed to specific issues faced by the saints millennia ago. For instance, the church in Ephesus was started on the wrong foundation by Apollos, who taught only the baptism of John (Acts 19:1-3). Paul needed to reestablish it on the proper foundation.

Because God never errors in judgment, nothing can happen to the elect that God has not ordained. It may sometimes seem that our heavenly Father punishes his children while the ungodly prosper and enjoy life. Yet, such a perspective is nearsighted. Asaph wrote: “As for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well-nigh slipped, for I was envious at the foolish when I saw the prosperity of the wicked” (Psalm 73:2-3). Nevertheless, as “the called” according to His purpose, we strive for a superior future.
