  • Is it all downhill from here?
    Thursday 11th October 2018
Overnight saw a big sell-off of US and European stocks. Phil Dobbie asks NAB’s Gavin Friend whether it was the correction we had to have, genuine concerns over tariffs or something else? In Europe bond yields are being impacted by the continued resolve of the Italian government to deliver a budget that falls outside EU regulations. They also look ahead to US CPI numbers today – could a strong read impact an already volatile market?

  • Brexit hope, Italy’s mess, China’s plans
    Wednesday 10th October 2018
Whilst the US economy seems to go from strength to strength, there is speculation that China will ramp up stimulus measures to keep their economy strong. But, as Phil Dobbie, discusses with NAB’s Tapas Strickland, Europe continues to eye the plight of Italy, where the finance minister wants to tackle the spread in bond yields, but doesn’t want to change the budget. Go figure. Meanwhile there are rumours that a Brexit deal might be just round the corner, but will it be enough to bond together a divided Tory party? Kaixin Owyong also joins Phil to talk through yesterday’as NAB business survey.

  • A Risky End to China’s Golden Week
    Tuesday 9th October 2018
Equity markets took a hammering overnight. China felt it worst, after their Golden Week holiday. A bit of catching up to do, perhaps? Phil Dobbie asks NAB’s Rodrigo Catril what’s driving this sell-off. They also touch on continuing concerns between the EU and Italy, and why, given the rising risk sentiment, the Aussie and NZ dollars have fared better than most overnight. Plus, what to look out for in the NAB Business Survey this morning.

  • Goldilocks pushes US bond yields higher
    Monday 8th October 2018
Strong US payrolls data on Friday saw bond yields push higher. At the same time, Friday saw new multi-year lows for the Aussie and Kiwi dollars. Phil Dobbie asks NAB’s Ray Attrill if the market has over-reacted to the US data, or is there simply a broader acceptance of the Fed’s rate rise trajectory? They also discuss moves by the People’s Bank of China to sidestep the impacts of the US tariff war – and hopes in the UK that a Brexit deal is close.
