Naked Diner

Alyson Chadwick is a comedian, writer, political consultant and all kinds of things. Honestly this episode got a lot more political than I expected it would from the jump and we spend about half the show on politics. But then we move on to more important things like cat penis jokes and crowd work.

You can find more Alyson via http://www.therandomjournal.com or on the twitters https://twitter.com/AlysonHChadwick. In addition, you can check out her youtube station here: https://www.youtube.com/user/AlysonChadwick

Angry Old Man Podcast‘s Mr.X bills his show as “A One Man Voice Characterization and Improvisational Company” which brings us into the lives of group of lovable, almost muppetesque, chracters who live in the Bella Terra Mobile Park Estates, a Southern California trailer park.

The man behind the show is a true radio and production vetaran, so I was really thrilled to have him come on the Diner and talk to us about podcasting, his career in FM radio, his time doing standup in LA, and how his show is put together.

We also get a visit from the Bella Terra park gang, who invaded the studio … delightful chaos ensued.

If you spend any amount of time around the internet you’ve probably seen some of Zach’s comics. But you may not know he also hosts the semi-regular BAHFest events on the east and west coasts, and most recently in London. We sit down with Zach and talk the early days of webcomics, parenting, city planning (believe it or not), single-use monocles (Really really believe it or not), and a plurality of other topics. To quote my goodly co-host “Sickeningly nice guy that Zach.”

You can of course find Zach’s daily comic at http://smbc-comics.com

You can find all the BAHFest videos on http://BAHFest.com

… this one’s my favorite:

No kidding. Single-use disposable monocles. Welcome to the future of the past: http://singleusemonocles.com

He’s also has a theater background and will be directing a upcoming production of As You Like it for the University of New England Theater Dept.

We talk about the intricacies that brought about CFI’s recent merger with the Richard Dawkins Foundation (Get well soon, Richard!), Paul’s troubles with Amazon, Secularism and atheism (of course) and Shakespeare.

Ian Harris is a stand-up and MMA trainer. This of course leads him to be a pretty intense guy with opinions on just about everything. In this week’s episode we talk a little politics, a little comedy shop talk, a little about MMA, death and dying, the environment … this is a pretty full episode. I think you’re going to like it. One of the interesting things about Ian’s last special was how heavy it was on talking about being an atheist in America. I’m big on that, it’s fertile ground for comedy. Strap in and enjoy.

You can find Ian’s most recent special on hulu: http://hulu.com/ian-harris-critical-and-thinking, or on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/ian-harris-critical-thinking/id895554456

The vicissitudes of fate have conspired against our scheduled guest’s tire. But fear not diner patrons, we have other goodness tucked away for just such instances.

Andy did talk last month at Greater Boston Oasis about secular parenting and, after some insistance from Jack, had the good sense to make a recording of it … y’know … in case our scheduled guest has to reschedule one day. Always have a back-up plan friends.

So enjoy Andy’s talk, and we’ll have more guesty goodness next week. Tune back in February 1st for that. February is going to be good, I promise.

Kaveh is an ex-muslim athiest blogger living in Tehran, Iran.

This was an interesting talk. Our first international Naked Diner. What stuck me most is that Kaveh’s experience living as an atheist in the middle east is … that he’s not that different. In this episode you’ll heear him say that a lot of ‘religious’ people over there igonre the trappings of their faith and instead, figure that just giving him a hard time is good enough. Tell me you haven’t heard that before?

Kaytlin Bailey is a comic/performer and founder of the Pink Collar Comedy Tour … which going into the show is what we planned to talk about. That plan changed as we got into the topic of her one woman show Cuntagious, her brief career in escorting, sex work in general, and domestic violence. The whole thing escalates pretty quickly. I think you’ll like it.

Kaytlin is currently playing shows in New York and Pink Collar will be touring the West Coast soon. For details see pinkcollarcomedytour.com and Kaytlinbailey.com.

Note for audiophiles: We had to do the show this week over google hangouts instead of our usual Skype, this caused some weird bleed between the channels and I had to do a fair bit of tinkering to try and eliminate echo, etc. Sorry about that. Can’t be helped. Do stick with this episode though.

Andy and Jack welcome the multifacited Leighann Lord to the show to talk mostly comedy and comedy craft, but some writing, and even a little politics. A really fun time with a guest who has been in the industry long enough to have some great stories.
