How can bilingual literature support reading at home or in the classroom? I chat with Natalia Simons from Bilingo Books about that.
In her latest books, The Spanglish Girl and Mexiglish Girl, the characters immerse into the language. The young bilingual girls enjoy learning about Hispanic traditions and being bilingual.
Natalia’s Biography:
Natalia Simons was born in England to a Spanish mother and an English father. She grew up bilingual and spent every summer in a quaint village in Spain with my grandparents and many cousins. She has always loved languages and different cultures so she decided to study Modern Foreign Languages at the University. She has traveled extensively around Latin America, Spain and has worked in Children centers. By merging the two experiences, Natalia decided to write bilingual books for children. She runs a publishing business called "Bilingo Books" as well as teaches Spanish at after-school clubs. So far she has published 4 books which are called: “The Spanglish Girl, The Mexiglish Girl, The Frenglish Boy and ABC Spain”. She plans on writing even more books in order to help children feel empowered to speak a second language. Natalia also runs workshops and author events at schools all around the world which so far have been a great success.
