After finding Citrine giving a ripening lesson to the corps fairies, Petipom discovers Rutabug doesn't like to eat his tomatoes. But after trying Petipomʼs pizza, and later, Rubyʼs salsa, Rutabug changes his mind and decides that tomatoes are alright.

Rutabug watches the sunrise before calling everyone to the wheat harvest. The gnomes cut and clear, the fairies thresh, while Hamilton and Morrison grind at the mill wheel. Pearl and Puddleblume sit with Tourmaline and make the first loaf of bread together.

In which, after a morning filled with fruit festivities, Petipom makes a birthday wish to have his friends join him in the sky. Amethyst suggests they make a birthday balloon. The gnomes then make his wish come true by building it. Then, together, inside the birthday balloon, they watch fairyworks.

In which Thumbkin discovers that his friends donʼt like to get wet. So while Hamilton, Morrison, and Rutabug sit on a potato boat, everyone else goes swimming until Petipom looses his hat. Diving for it, he hears singing under the water. Curious to hear the music, the others finally join.

In which, after Hamilton gets a canning lesson from Rutabug and Thumbkin, Petipom discovers a giant zucchini. Then, rolling it down to the creek, they discover it floats, which Rutabug has the bright idea of transforming it into a ship they appropriately call, The Black Beauty.

In which Hamilton leads everyone on a small adventure outside the garden to his old home, a great oak tree. Upon returning, Hamilton realizes that a house is not a home, but the people are. Grateful for his friends, and his new home, they all spend the night together singing around the campfire.

In which everyone gathers on the grassy knoll to watch the sunrise. After the Prince of Summer arrives in his castle in the sky, the summer games begin. Hamilton wins the ground events and, though Eliza comes very close, Citrine wins the flying events. The longest day ends with a bonfire.
