Growing up, Sheran's aunt mostly did her hair. But her aunt didn't have enough patience to do my hair because she moved around a lot. So one day, her aunt decided to relax her hair. It was a Saturday. She was 6 years old and her aunt applied the relaxer. She remembers seeing the "Just for Me" box and thinking that her hair was going to look just like the girls' hair on the box. Boy, was she disappointed. As a kid, she really, really, really wanted long hair but she never thought she could achieve it because she was just a regular black girl. Not mixed. No Indian in her family. None of that.

Allyson's natural hair journey started when my white male endocrinologist asked me why black women relax their hair?
She explained to him the challenges we faced with our hair, not just the maintenance but the discrimination in schools and the workplace. The conversation was deep. He then gave her the CONS of the chemical breakdown of relaxers and the effects of them on the mind, body, and spirit. And from that very moment, she decided to stop relaxing her hair.
Exercise is not just for looking good!

In this episode, Chrishan shares her hair journey and how at 13, she convinced her mom to allow her to relax her hair, which later she realized was a big mistake. She decided to go natural until she was 31, then went back to the creamy crack when she entered Corporate America, only to cry her eyes out.
