We have desires that are given to us by God and we have desires that are actually against His will due to sin. Between the two poles of deformed desire and holy desire is a spectrum of mixed longings. All of this is often experienced as desperation. God comes to us and works his will in our hearts, and the world, through it all. Advent reminds us that God came to us as a man to satisfy our deepest needs. The arc of our lives is moving towards perfect fulfillment of all desire in Jesus as His Kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven.

Some studies say that one out of five North Americans do not know a Christian. The remedy to this tragedy is a church community committed to building relationships through lavish hospitality. This was Jesus’ missionary practice. As our hearts become more hospitable to the other than our homes will open, creating space for strangers to become family, and even our enemies to become family.

God is always listening. God is always present. Prayer is more than folding our hands and closing our eyes while we cover a list of needs. It's not less than this, but it is so much more. Neighbors Church desires to constantly attune to God's presence as an act of unceasing prayer. Through devotion and discipline, we will grow in ever-increasing measure to pray as Jesus prayed.
