November 12, 2015 Show 019 / Doctor and the Medics
Neon Nights show #019 "Doctor And The Medics Interview"
"Prepare yourself, you know it's a must..."
Dr and the Medics were created almost at the dawn of the 80's, in 1982 by The Rev Dr. Clive Thomas Jackson.
The band has had a very colourful and successful career as both recording artists and performers. Undoubtedly they are been best known for their massive 1986 No 1 "Spirit in the Sky," which sold over 24 Million copies world wide and was number 1 in 23 countries!! They are also recognized as a great live act, in 1985 the NME referred to them as "THE live band of the year."
Often promoted as 1 hit wonders, the band claim to be the only 1 hit wonder to have had 2 hits as their next single "Burn," got to number 21!! But as they don't make documentaries or publish books about one and a half hit wonders, the Doctor keeps quiet about "The other hit," and wears his "One Hit Wonder" badge with pride!!!
The band's last chart entry was "Waterloo" which they recorded with Roy Wood, In addition the band have recorded 5 albums, the latest being a live album featuring the current line up which is due out this year. This line up has been together since 1999 and has developed a unique and sensationally flamboyant live show. The current show features many hits from the 80's, All given the Medics unique treatment!! Such is the power of their performance that they produced the shock result of the TV show "Hit Me Baby One More Time," when they won the studio vote for best act against Jackie Graham, Belinda Carlisle and...... SHAKIN STEVENS!!!
In 2008 The Doctor was acknowledged by his home town when he was invited to perform to 8,000 people in the Liverpool Arena alongside Atomic Kitten, The lightening Seeds, The Christians, The Scaffold, The Farm, Gerry and the Pacemakers and many more for the "Number 1 Project."
In 2015 the band are as busy as ever with a hectic festival schedule and shows throughout the year
In May they have also released a radical re-treatment of Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Right Round".
My band Parralox has remixed Spirit In The Sky, which has just reached #1 on the USA ZIP DJ / DANCEPOOL Charts!
I interviewed the Reverend Dr. Clive Thomas (lead vocalist of Doctor and the Medics) and we have the worldwide premiere of the Extended Mix of Spirit In The Sky (Parralox Extended Mix) plus we will also be playing the Radio Mix.
Kind thanks to Dr Rev Clive Thomas Jackson and Barbara Sobel.
Electronically Yours, John.

November 06, 2015 Show 018 / Erasure
Neon Nights show #018 "Erasure Interview"
"You've got your finger on the pulse of my soul..."
Erasure is Vince Clarke and Andy Bell.
Formed 30 years ago, the award-winning song writing duo of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell unleashed on the nation a succession of both influential and chart-topping pop anthems of the '80s, '90s through to today. Songs like 'A Little Respect', 'Sometimes', 'Victim Of Love', 'Ship Of Fools', 'Blue Savannah', 'Star', 'Chains Of Love', 'The Circus', 'Who Needs Love (Like That)', 'Love To Hate You',
'Drama!', 'Always' and 'Breathe', ensured a formidable presence on the singles charts complemented by five consecutive No 1 albums
(including The Innocents, Wild! and Chorus) and the beginning of the worldwide Abba revival, 'Abba-esque'.
Always – The Very Best Of Erasure is a brand new compilation celebrating 30 years of the band, which brings the story bang up to date.
Always (released on Mute/BMG) will be available in a single digi pack CD and a deluxe book pack 3CD edition featuring remixes from Moby, William Orbit, BT and The Grid (Dave Ball / Soft Cell) & 4 brand new mixes.
The album includes a brand new version of 'Sometimes' re-booted for 2015 by David Wrench (Hot Chip, Jamie XX & Caribou).
John von Ahlen chats with Vince Clarke about the new Best Of Album "Always", what it was like working on the SSSS album (how DO you pronounce it? Tune in and all will be revealed), his thoughts on techno, being an electronic pioneer and in a not-to-be-missed segment Vince chats about what he would be doing if he wasn't a musician.
Special thanks to Mute Records / Leo Stubbing for coordinating the interview, and of course Vince Clarke for taking the time to chat with me.
Electronically Yours, John.

October 31, 2015 Show 017 / Dangerous Muse
Neon Nights show #017 "Dangerous Muse Interview"
"Is this a Dagger hanging above me..."
DANGEROUS MUSE is New York City's electronic rock project. Fronted by songwriter and vocalist, MIKE FUREY, the band's debut single, "The Rejection", caught the attention of record mogul SEYMOUR STEIN in the summer of 2006, who offered Dangerous Muse a deal with SIRE RECORDS. Upon release, their debut three-track digital EP soared to #2 on iTunes dance charts. A music video for the lead single aired on MTV/LOGO and, in its second week, captured the #1 spot on the countdown. This success rallied significant press coverage including the cover of the annual music issue of THE ADVOCATE and a feature in the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS article "Year End Ones to Watch." Over the last few years, Dangerous Muse has released a plethora of highly acclaimed singles and EPs.
I had the pleasure of chatting Mike about his new music, touring with Erasure and what it was like to DANCE WITH MADONNA!
And in an Exclusive to JOY949, on tonight's show we are proud to present the World Premiere of the new Dangerous Muse track Dagger.
Electronically Yours, John.

Nights show #016 "Sheena Easton Interview"
"My baby takes the morning train..."
I was very fortunate to be able to chat with Sheena Easton, a multi Grammy Award winning Recording Artist with a career spanning several decades. We spoke about her work with Prince, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Sheena opens up about her thoughts on Social Media, her career highlights and her LGBTI fans!
Sheena Easton crashed the big ‘80s and gained worldwide success with hits such as "9 to 5 Morning Train", ‘Modern Girl’ and "For Your Eyes Only" the theme song from the James Bond movie and “We’ve Got Tonight”, her duet with Kenny Rogers. Her later work with Prince also proved a success, spawning "Strut," "Sugar Walls" and "U Got the Look”. She’s a two-time Grammy Award winner, has recorded 16 studio albums - 6 Gold albums and 1 Platinum - and has sold over 20 million records worldwide.
Don't miss this amazing interview. Sheena is truly an industry legend, with a wicked sense of humour and an absolute delight to speak with.
Electronically Yours, John.
