On this episode of 'Network Outdoors The Podcast' Brandon Malson and Mike Buckman discuss the up coming Delaware Trout Opener for youth-only on April 1st and general population 4/2.

All weekend long (that Saturday & Sunday) we are hosting a BBQ for members, non-members, new anglers, experienced anglers, families, kids and anyone interested in enjoying the riverside outdoors! Please stop by the White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Delaware if you have kids who want to fish on Saturday, or on Sunday anyone can stop by because the trout fishing is open to all.

Mike and Brandon talk about the trout fishery, what’s needed to fish for yourself and your kids, the number of fish stocked, different sizes and time of season fish are stocked, different baits to use (Mike has a secret recipe that’s guaranteed to catch a limit, but he’ll only share with those that show up to the BBQ), ideal rod, reel, and line setups, suggested approach for how to introduce youth to trout fishing, different species, and much more!

Don’t have a fishing pole of your own? No problem! Our partners at Herb’s Tackle Shop are supplying the event all weekend with rods, reels, and tackle so everyone gets to experience the trout fun! A BIG thank you to Herb’s Tackle Shop!

Our field pro staff members will be there on-site to help anglers prepare lines, bait, remove fish, and make sure everyone is using safe methods around the river to catch fish and have a great time! 

Mike will be cooking in the morning too and invites everyone to enjoy breakfast straight from his family farm including fresh eggs from their chickens and venison breakfast sausage.

He also describes the process and timeframes of his search, importance of working with a team to secure the right property, a deal that didn’t work out, what he did on the property as soon as he did buy one, and the strategy he is following to continue “leveling up” with the ever changing market conditions. The memories he has already made in the past couple of years because of this decision to buy are priceless.
