In this episode, we are pleased to show you the last record of our special season marked by the Neuronus2022 Neuroscience Forum conference, where our special guest is prof Lauri Nummenmaa.

Prof Nummenmaa leads the Human Emotion Systems laboratory at Turku PET Centre and the Department of Psychology at the University of Turku.  Our guest is particularly interested in finding out how the brain processes emotions with specialization in human emotion science and medical imaging - to understand better mechanisms behind our feelings 😩😬🥳

See what you can learn from this episode ⬅️

🛟How emotions can help us survive?

🧐Which emotion is getting known better and better in neuroscience in recent times?

👨‍👩‍👧What is the most significant area of the brain to maintain long-lasting, meaningful relationships?

🥰What's the trick to making people like you more daily?

  • N22#07 What have we learned from making brain soup? | An interview with prof Suzana Herculano-Houzel

    Hello!🧠🎧

Our guest in today’s episode is professor Suzana Herculano-Houzel, who is well-known for preparing so-called “brain soups”, which broke the myth that the human brain has 100 billion neurons, estimating the correct number for 86 billion. Keep listening if you want to know….

🥣 How this extraordinary soup-method can be used to count the cells?

✨ Is the human brain really as special as you think?
⚡ Whether your brain can get as much energy as it demands or it has to deal with what it gets?
🦕 What are the secrets of dinosaurs’ brains…

    …and many more. Enjoy listening!

  • N22#06 Bridging stress and bliss - oxytocin excitations | An interview with prof Valery Grinevich about oxytocin

    Hello! 🧠 🎧

In today’s interview we had a pleasure to talk with Professor Valery Grinevich: head of the Department of Neuropeptide Research in Psychiatry at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim and a professor at Heidelberg University. Professor Grinevich takes us on a trip of discovery of one of our most ancient neurohormones: oxytocin. Not only do we learn of its numerous physiological functions, but – perhaps even more importantly – of its promising therapeutical uses. Together we find out:
👪 How a certain nonapeptide provides us with the ability to form stable family bonds
😌 What disorders can be mitigated by a timely upregulation of oxytocin
🥳 Where to seek biological foundations of gregariousness…

…and many more. Tune in for the whole story!

This is the next episode prepared in the cooperation with Neuronus Neuroscience Forum - the biggest neuroscience conference in Poland held in Krakow biannually.

  • N22#05 Is the cure for multiple sclerosis in our reach? | An interview with Aleksandra Rutkowska Ph.D. about sclerosis and blood-brain barrier

    Hi everyone 🧠🎧

Thank you all for tuning in for another episode. Today we’ll have the pleasure of talking with Professor Aleksandra Rutkowska, an expert on the blood-brain barrier.

Professor Rutkowska has received her PhD in Molecular Neurobiology at the Trinity College in Dublin in affiliation with Novartis from Basel, Switzerland, and currently holds a research position the Medical University of Gdańsk. Her studies are focused on multiple sclerosis.

If you’re interested in what the blood-brain barrier is🩸and how it sometimes makes treating certain diseases difficult and also if recent advances in blood-brain barrier models can help us beat diseases such as multiple sclerosis 🗡 - keep listening!

Also, a heads up – this episode references a specific picture of receptor internalisation that our guest has kindly made available to us. You can check it out at our social media @neuronusound or at our youtube channel @NeuronusoundPodcast.
