  1. Number 1: Traditional Versus Critical Theory

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 178 Critical Theory originates in the formal sense from a 1937 essay penned by Frankfurt School director Max Horkheimer, bearing the title "Traditional and Critical Theory." In that essay, Horkheimer compares what he calls "traditional theory" against his neo-Marxist conception that he names "critical theory," thus organizing the approach behind the entire school of thought that is sometimes called Critical Marxism. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay breaks down the point of this essay and the nature of Horkheimer's comparison between these two ways of thinking. 2. Number 2: A Short, Comprehensive Definition of "Woke"

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 179 Woke can be summarized in a single, short way. Woke means thinking with critical theory and acting like a Leninist. That's all it really comes down to: having awakened to the alleged relevance of counter-hegemonic critical theory combined with friend-enemy tribal politics and Machiavellian permission structures. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay breaks it all down, making Woke easier than it ever has been before. Join him for the insight needed to recognize Woke wherever it appears. 3. Number 3: The Nazi Experiment, Vol. 17: Hitler at His Point

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 222 If we really peel back so much of the ranting and the drama around the Nazi Experiment, what are we left with? Well, the point, to be frank. In this episode of the Nazi Experiment series on the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay takes you into that point, which Adolf Hitler himself makes clear in a remarkably short chapter of his 1928 "Secret Book," which went unpublished throughout his lifetime. Meant to be something like a third volume to Mein Kampf focused on Nazi foreign policy, this short book barely saw the light of day. Here, we will learn what Hitler means when he declares himself a nationalist, a socialist, and a national socialist, and we will understand with horror his clear-eyed self-awareness that the whole future of his movement lay in the youth pulled from the children of the establishment national bourgeoisie. Join James for this short expose of Nazi vision. 4. Number 4: John Adams's 1765 Defense of Religious and Political Liberty

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 220 In 1765, Great Britain had foolishly decided to continue escalating its attempts to recover the cost of the French and Indian War from its American Colonists by passing the infamous and odious Stamp Act upon the colonies, who famously were not represented in the Parliament that would tax them. In response, a great deal of pre-Revolutionary mayhem and energy was unleashed on this side of the Pond, and within that current came one of the most brilliant and under-recognized essays (https://www.fredbischoff.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Adams-Canon-Feudal.pdf) of the nascent American era, penned under pseudonym by the incredible John Adams. "A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law," as it was called, was a hammerstroke against the twin tyrannies of an overbearing church and state, and worse yet, their confederacy. It was also a call to learning and to memory for the colonists about who they are, who they were, and why they and their forefathers came: not just for religion, but for religious liberty and a hatred of these wicked tyrannies all across Europe. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay reads Adams's amazing essay with no less goal than to make it famous among all Americans. 5. Number 5: The Foundational American View of Romans 13

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 219 The United States of America was founded on a very particular view of the people's right relationship to government authority that can be, and was, summarized by the famous phrase, "Resistance against tyrants is obedience to God." But, many have wondered, even in our present day, what about the injunctions of Paul's famous Romans 13, which demands we obey our civil authorities, for they are ordained by God for our good through that role? This crucial question loomed very large through the Covid-19 abuses and has ever since, including in the American churches. The definitively American answer to the question was given as a sermon (https://lc.org/PDFs/A%20Discourse%20Concerning%20Unlimited%20Submission%20and%20Non-Resistance%20to%20the%20Higher%20Powers%20-%20Jonathan%20Mayhew%20-%201750.pdf) in Massachusetts Colony in 1750, however, by a fiery young Congregationalist named Jonathan Mayhew, and this sermon laid bedrock under what would become the United States. "A Discourse Concerning Unlimited Submission and Non-Resistance to the Higher Powers," he called it. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay reads the majority of this sermon to you with as much passion as he can muster so that you, too, can hear this incredibly important message, 276 years after it was first preached. You won't want to miss it. (Get Eric Metaxas's Revolution here (https://amzn.to/4wgxMDg) and Tim Sandefur's Proclaiming Liberty here (https://amzn.to/4cpyV4d)!)
