This Sunday, June 24, we will continue our sermon series, “The Storm Before the Calm” based on Talbot Davis’ book by the same name.
This week’s message, “The Perfect Storm,” is based on Paul’s journey to Rome, which was marked by a terrible and long storm in Acts 17:13–44. We will see that today’s peace comes from tomorrow’s promise. There are times when storms in our lives last a relentlessly long time. Rather than letting ourselves get shipwrecked we have to consider what might need to go overboard in order to get through the storm. The longer the storm the lighter you travel.

Pray for those whose storms have lasted for so long. Pray for those who need to know not only that God is with them through the storm, but who also need to discern ways they can lighten their load as they deal with the storm. Pray that we will all know God as our shelter in the storms that come our way.

This Sunday, June 17, we will continue our sermon series, “The Storm Before the Calm” based on Talbot Davis’ book by the same name.
This week’s message, “Storm Shelters,” is based on Isaiah 25:1–8 (to read this text go to: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+25%3A1–8&version=NLT) We will see that today’s peace comes from tomorrow’s promise. Ultimately, the assurance of heaven is our shelter on earth. God promises to one day balance all accounts, wipe away all tears, and swallow up death itself; that is, for anyone who chooses to take their place at the banquet God has prepared for us.

This Sunday, June 10, we will continue our sermon series, “The Storm Before the Calm” based on Talbot Davis’ book by the same name.
This week’s message, Storm Chasers, is based on Mark 4:35–41, in which the disciples find themselves in a boat taking on water in the midst of a terrible storm in the Sea of Galilee. Frantically bailing out water, they wake a sleeping Jesus, asking him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are drowning?”
Jesus then calms the storm with just a few words and chastises the stunned disciples, asking them why they still don’t have faith. It leads them (and us) to ask the most important question we will ever ask - who is this Jesus? In the middle of the storm, we may be consumed with bailing out water but in the calm, we are forced to go deeper. In the calm, we are forced to face the true identity of Jesus Christ.

This Sunday, June 3, we will start a new sermon series, “The Storm Before the Calm.” There is an accompanying book that goes with this 5-week series. Storms in our lives are inevitable. How will we make sense of life’s troubles?
You are in one of three places: You just came through a storm. You are in the middle of a storm right now. You are headed toward a storm in the future. When you build your life on a solid foundation, you’ll be ready when life is unsteady. What you do in the calm determines how you do in the storm.
This week’s message is based on Luke 6:46–49 about how two men prepare for a storm (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6%3A46–49&version=NLT), and is titled, “The Eye of the Storm.”

This Sunday, May 27, is Trinity Sunday and we will finish up our 2 part sermon series on “The Big Picture.” Last week we talked about our vision of being a church that is rooted in God’s Word, renewed by God’s Spirit through worship and prayer, and reaching out with love into our community and world. This week we’ll look at our values that are so important they are “non-negotiable.” To be better prepared for worship read Matthew 22:37–40; Isaiah 30:21; John 16:13; Genesis 1:1–2; Acts 15:28; John 1:14; Matthew 14:27–30; 2 Timothy 1:7 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+22%3A37–40%3B+Isaiah+30%3A21%3B+John+16%3A13%3B+Genesis+1%3A1-%3B+Acts+15%3A28%3B+John+1%3A14%3B+Matthew+14%3A27–30%3B+2+Timothy+1%3A7&version=NLT)
Being “non-negotiable” means valuing something so much that we can’t compromise on it. At New Hope we will: Love J. Care re all people. Follow God’s guidance. Seek to live out the Truth with Grace. Work in teams and value everyone’s input. Be open to taking risks and making bold decisions.

We celebrate the birthday of Jesus’ Church, Pentecost, which gives thanks for the coming of the Holy Spirit like a fire. Pastor Vicki talked about our “Why” last week helping determine our “What” in how we live the new life in Christ. Our mission at New Hope is to make more and better followers of Jesus Christ. We’ll look at our vision this Sunday of being rooted in God’s Word, renewed by God’s Spirit through worship and prayer, and reaching out with love into our community and world. Check out Colossians 2:6–10, 3:10, Mark 1:40–41 by going to: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+2%3A6–10%2C+3%3A10%2C+Mark+1%3A40–41&version=NLT) The title of the message is: “The Three R’s: Rooted, Renewed, Reaching.”

At New Hope, we talk a lot about our mission, which is to make more and better followers of Jesus, and our strategy for doing this - REACH, CONNECT, GROW, and SEND. Those are our WHATs. But the critical question is really, WHY do we do this? WHY do we ramble on and on about it? I know some of you think this! But seriously, WHY does it matter? This Sunday, May 13, the message will be focusing on, “What’s our WHY?” When you know your WHY, your WHAT has more impact because you are walking in or toward your purpose. You move from complacency to passion, from boring and irrelevant to exciting and truly significant. Our main Scripture is probably the most power-packed WHY Scripture of all time - John 3:16–17. As we unpack this and other important truths about God’s love, our WHY becomes more evident.
