New Hope Tampa Bay Sunday Sermon Podcast

This Sunday, April 22, we continue our sermon series on Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi called “Living Out Our Joy.” This week we’ll look at Philippians 2 (to read this chapter go to: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+2&version=NLT) Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi is known for its emphasis on joy as a decision on how to approach life no matter what our circumstances. We seek this as a goal not because it comes naturally to any of us, but because we are “in Christ.”

This Sunday, April 15, we will begin a new 4-week sermon series on Paul's letter to the church in Philippi called "Living Out Our Joy." This week we'll start at the beginning, a very good place to start in [Philippians 1](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+1&version=NLT) (to read this chapter go to: [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+1&version=NLT](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+1&version=NLT)) Paul's letter to the church in Philippi is known for its emphasis on joy as a decision on how to approach life no matter what our circumstances. We seek this as a goal not because it comes naturally to any of us, but because we are "in Christ." This week's message will address "What Really Matters?" This Sunday, April 1, is Easter and April Fools Day, which is quite appropriate. What a turn of events as the One who was dead was brought back to life! The message will be from John 11:25-26: "Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” Jesus pointedly asked Martha if she believed this. 2000 years later Jesus looks us in the eye and asks us, "Do you believe I am the resurrection and the life?" Your answer and what you do with it matters here and now and forever. Maundy is from the Latin word for mandate based on John 15:12,17. Jesus gave His followers the mandate to love one another. This is a time to remember the events of the Lord’s last evening with His disciples in the Upper Room.

This Sunday, March 18, we will conclude our sermon series on the "Seven Last Words" of Jesus spoken from the cross. This week we will look at Jesus' seventh word, the last word of the last words, from the cross found in Luke 23:44-46: "By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last." Here Jesus fully committing His spirit into the care of His Father's hands. How can we do the same? Part of our sermon series, *The Seven Last Words of Jesus,* in which we will reflect on the last phrases that Jesus uttered on the cross and what they mean for our own lives. Part of our sermon series, The Seven Last Words of Jesus, in which we will reflect on the last phrases that Jesus uttered on the cross and what they mean for our own lives. This Sunday, March 11, we will continue with our sermon series on the "Seven Last Words" of Jesus spoken from the cross. This week we will look at Jesus' sixth word found in John 19:28-30: "Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, 'I am thirsty.' A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, 'It is finished!' Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." As Jesus was dying on the cross for us, what exactly was the "It" in "It is finished?" In Colossians 2:14 Paul declares, "He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross." We'll consider the charges against us that have been nailed to the cross, forgiven, and are now completely finished.

A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. The title of the message is, "Thirst."
