How do we speak to God when we face difficult situations, whether it be Covid, Ukraine or something else? Lament in the Bible offers one way for Christians both to express honestly to God how we feel about our difficulties, and to reaffirm trust in God as relevant even to these situations. In this seminar we will explore the importance of lament in the Bible, looking at what it is, where it is found, and how it is relevant for us. We will also ask whether there is anything that we cannot say to God as part of our relationship with him.

William Ford teaches Old Testament and Hebrew at Belfast Bible College. He has a particular interest in how we understand theologically difficult passages in the Bible.

Leaders aspire to be instruments of change. However leadership is not simply about the change that is brought about in or through an organisation or a church; the journey of leadership itself is a crucible of change through which the leader is transformed. This seminar will aim to explore some of the ways leaders can expect to be changed as they lead. The seminar will be of particular relevance to leaders of churches and other Christian ministries, but will also be open to Christians who are leading in other spheres of influence.

Alan Wilson teaches in Bible colleges in both Northern Ireland and the Republic. He is host of “The Leadership Journey Podcast” and author of “The Crucible of Leadership”. He is married to Pauline, a counsellor and retreat leader.

In this information age, vast quantities of data are at our fingertips, but conspiracy theories, fake news and ideologies abound and debate is often reduced to soundbites. Christians are called to be watchful, alert to deceit and firmly established in the truth. Yet we sometimes seem to be blown around by every idea and too easily duped. This seminar will search for wisdom to discern what is true, to test stories we hear and live faithfully by the true story of the gospel.

Based in Lisburn with wife, Gar-Ling, and two teenaged children, Paul Coulter is a medic, pastor, author and theologian. Supporting leaders in Living Leadership and doing apologetics the Centre for Christianity in Society, he loves walking and history.

1200 refugees and asylum seekers in hotels across greater Belfast. 500 folk from Hong Kong making Northern Ireland their home over the last 18 months. Almost 1000 Ukrainians recently arrived and many more on their way. The nations are no long in far off countries, but seeking sanctuary in our towns and villages. Surely God’s people will rise to be the ones who will share welcome, friendship and hope for the future with those who so desperately need it. Join this seminar to learn who our new neighbours are and how we as churches and individuals can get to know and serve them.
