  • Transformed by the Renewing of Our Minds - Part 5
We want to know the will of God. But when we test and approve Gods will, it doesnt mean that we judge Gods actions. Rather we examine the will of God and recognize it as genuine and fair, even if doesnt meet our expectations.

  • Transformed by the Renewing of Our Minds - Part 4
Being transformed by the renewing of our minds is a radical change. It is not possible in our own strength. It requires the supernatural power of God. It is not based on our wisdom. It requires the instruction of the word of God. And it is not for a short season of our lives. It is a lifelong process.

  • Transformed by the Renewing of Our Minds - Part 3
Do not conform to the pattern of this world. The spirit of this age and our own cravings and desires lead us to adopt the worldviews, philosophies, and perspectives of the times were living in. We can choose to not conform to those ways of thinking and behaving according to the patterns of this age. Instead, we can choose to conform to the pattern of Jesus Christ.

When we offer our bodies as living sacrifices, we are consecrating our whole beings spirit, soul, and body to the Lord. Our spirits must be aligned under and subject to the Holy Spirit. Our souls (mind, will, intellect, emotion, and memory) must be subject to our spirit. And our bodies (appetites and desires) must be subject to the soul. When we are spiritually aligned, we offer our bodies to be holy and pleasing to the Lord as our spiritual act of worship.

  • Transformed by the Renewing of Our Minds - Part 1
Romans 12:1-2 provides a summary plan of action for the whole Christian life that begins with comprehending the mercy of God. And in view of the mercy of God, the first directive in verse one is to offer our bodies, our whole beings, as living sacrifices. The sacrifice that Paul has in mind is the whole burnt offering, a sacrifice of consecration and devotion to God. We offer ourselves to God because we are from him, through him, and for him (Romans 11:36).

  • A Hymn of Praise
After showing us how God has reconciled sinners to himself, how Christ justifies us through his death in the past and sanctifies us through his life in the present, how we are to live not according to the law but according to grace by the power of the Holy Spirit, and how God integrates both Jews and Gentiles into the olive tree (his body, the Church) for his glory, Paul closes Romans 11 with a hymn of praise (a doxology) to the glory of God. We thank and glorify God for his wisdom and knowledge. We live our lives affirming that all things are from him and through him and for him.

  • The Olive Tree
Gentile believers, wild olive shoots, have been grafted into the olive tree of the Lord and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root (Romans 11:17). The directive for these Gentile believers is to stay humble, pray for the salvation of the Jewish people, learn more about the tree, cause people to take notice of the Messiah, and produce good fruit.

  • There is a Remnant
Paul is emphatic that God has not rejected his people, the children of Israel. No matter how many Israelites rejected the Messiah, God preserved a remnant. That was Gods message to Elijah when Elijah thought that he was all alone in serving God. Even though Elijah was a mighty prophet of God, his isolation caused him to be afraid. God had to speak to Elijah to refresh him and renew his purpose. God calls us to be rightly joined with the remnant, the children of God in a local church, and not be isolated.

  • How Can They?
After stating that we are saved when we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, in Romans 10:14-15, Paul asks a series of questions:
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?
Every believer is called and sent to preach the gospel. Every believer can pray for and prepare to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

  • Knowing God
Paul makes an important statement in Romans 10:2 that the Israelites missed the righteousness of God and the culmination of the law in Christ because they had zeal without knowledge. Their zeal was not for anything other than God. Yet, they did not have the knowledge of God or his ways. Its not just the first-century Israelites who are at risk of misguided zeal. Every person who has believed in their heart and confessed with their mouth that Jesus is Lord, must desire to continue to grow in the knowledge of God, his purpose, and his children. Or else their zeal will be based on religion, culture, popular opinion, and their own perceptions.
