  • Giving & Receiving
The old Sunday School song goes, Peter and John went to pray: they met a lame man on the way. He asked for alms and held out his palms, and this is what Peter did say, Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk! He went walking and leaping and praising God. Acts 3 recounts the remarkable story of a lame man who thought he needed money but found out he needed God. It speaks to us of God meeting our true needs, giving us of himself, and then calling us to give freely to others. • Jesus' Continuing Ministry
Establishing the Church - Luke describes his gospel record of Jesus ministry as an orderly account of what Jesus began to do and teach. The book of Acts then is Lukes account of Jesus' continuing ministry. Although the book is titled the Acts of the Apostles, it can be more accurately described as the Acts of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Acts 1 concludes the gospel account with the ascension of Jesus and sets up the dramatic events of Acts 2: the transformation of the 120 believers gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem and the establishment of the believing community, the body of Christ, the Church. • Jesus' Appearing to the Disciples
Instilling the Word - Jesus appeared to his disciples, and they thought he was a ghost! They didnt recognize Jesus because of their guilt, unbelief, fear, and, most importantly, for the same reason that the two disciples on the road to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus: they did not understand the word of God. Jesus patiently, compassionately, and lovingly reassured them that he had indeed risen from the dead in fulfillment of what the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms had said. He then opened their minds so that they could understand the scriptures, and their lives were transformed.Watch at: https://youtu.be/95hWZsDsy7o File Downloads: https://dq5pwpg1q8ru0.cloudfront.net/2020/10/26/07/38/48/c2799f70-d781-483c-a737-0c9400842400/Week%2048%20-%20102520%20-%20Luke%2024%2036-53%20(Questions).pdf

  • Jesus' Appearing on the Road to Emmaus
Revealing the Word - After he was resurrected from the grave, Jesus appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus, but they did not recognize him. They were blinded because they were expecting a Messiah who would save Israel, not one who would be crucified and die. They were so focused on what they wanted that despite what Jesus had said to them, they missed what God was doing right before their eyes. Jesus then explained all the scriptures concerning himself so that their eyes were opened and their hearts were transformed. • Jesus' Crucifixion
Fulfilling the Word - When Jesus was crucified, it wasnt the triumph of darkness over light. Jesus crucifixion was ordained even before the creation of the world. It was the fulfillment of the word of the Lord. The words Jesus spoke from the cross and the events at Calvary were directly referenced in Psalm 22, Psalm 31, Isaiah 53, and other scriptures. The perfect fulfillment of Gods word in the past and the wisdom and blessing it provides in the present reassures us that everything God has said about the future will also be fulfilled. • Jesus' Trial
Doing Justice - Jesus trial before the Sanhedrin and then before Pilate and Herod couldnt rightly be called a trial. It was a travesty of justice. But what is justice? And, what does it mean to do justice (act justly), as Micah 6:8 commands us to, in a world of injustice? The Bible answers that question by directing us to defend the oppressed, to care for the fatherless, the widow, and our own family members, to show mercy and compassion to everyone, especially to the foreigner and the poor, to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to be impartial, and to loose the chains of injustice.Watch at: https://youtu.be/vrfYfbC9q8U File Downloads: https://dq5pwpg1q8ru0.cloudfront.net/2020/11/17/11/56/43/93d0ff23-b0ae-4727-99b3-da2048a19f37/Week%2045%20-%20100420%20-%20Luke%2022%2066%20-%2023%2025%20(Questions).pdf

  • Jesus' Arrest
Facing Temptation - A few hours before his arrest, Jesus was in such agony as he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane that his sweat was like drops of blood. Yet, he repeatedly returns to the disciples to urge them to watch and pray so that they dont fall into temptation. Temptation affects the spirit, the soul, and the body. We give in, give up, and give out. Thank God that he knows exactly what were going through and is willing to restore us even when we fall. Jesus works in us to renew our spirits, transform our minds, and enable the members of our body to be instruments of righteousness. • Who is the Greatest?
Luke 22:24 states that after Jesus instituted the Lords Supper, A dispute also arose among them (the disciples) as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus response was entirely unexpected. He washed and wiped their feet and said that what he had done, his act of service, was an example for them (John 13:3-5,12-17). If they wanted to lead or be great they were to humble themselves and serve others. The example of servant leadership that Jesus set was not of perfunctory service but rather to serve others like a slave serves a master. In referring to serving like a slave it is important to note that although the Bible does not condone physical slavery it does not directly condemn it either. Instead, the Bible uses the widely known practice of physical slavery to make a point about spiritual slavery. When the Bible refers repeatedly to us being slaves of Christ we understand that it is referring to our exclusive ownership by the master, total availability for service to the master, and complete dependence on the master.Watch at: https://youtu.be/1MnXXPPnYDQ File Downloads: https://dq5pwpg1q8ru0.cloudfront.net/2021/02/03/05/56/59/7b7a3be3-450a-45d6-8228-9dda271c3e76/Week%2043%20-%20092020%20-%20Luke%2022%2024-38%20(Questions).pdf

  • The Lord's Supper
There are only two rituals that Jesus commanded the Church to perform, what we refer to as the 2 ordinances of the Church: to be baptized in water and to observe the Lords Supper. The Lords Supper is the opportunity for us to fellowship, to have communion, with the Lord and with all believers. The Lords Supper is also a memorial of the new covenant in Jesus blood. And, every time we participate in the Lords Supper we anticipate the second coming of the Lord and the marriage supper of the lamb.Watch at: https://youtu.be/cIc8SjFe_B8 File Downloads: https://dq5pwpg1q8ru0.cloudfront.net/2020/12/06/17/12/24/51c9376a-fc5e-498c-8370-a3f568784ea2/Week%2042%20-%20091320%20-%20Luke%2022%201-23%20(Questions).pdf

  • Kingdom Timing: Part 2
Jesus spoke about the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem (v. 6, 20-24) and his second coming (v. 25-28) in almost the same breath. With the initiation of the kingdom of God in Jesus first coming and the consummation of the kingdom at Jesus second coming it is as if all of the events in between dont really need to be separated out. Instead, for us who are living in the times of the Gentiles, after the destruction of the temple in 70 CE and before the very visible, unmistakable return of Jesus sometime in the future, we are called to not get caught up in the anxieties of life or determining eschatological timing but to watch and pray.
