Welcome to the New School of Marketing podcast. This is the last episode of the year and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has tuned in this year. I really love creating this content for you and I hope that it has been helpful for you in your marketing journey.

If you’re new here, welcome and I hope my insights, tips and tricks and interviews with amazing people will help you on your journey too. 

As we wrap up the year, I’m going to make a bold move and try to predict what will happen in 2022 in terms of marketing. 

Last week I already gave some insights into what you should be doing to have marketing success in 2022 and this episode continues on from that in a way. 

I don’t have a crystal ball, but by looking at the year we’ve just had and the changes that are happening in the digital world, I think these predictions will be fairly accurate.

For the past few weeks I’ve been looking at my business and thinking about what I’d like to do in 2022 and what I’d like to stop doing. It’s a great time for a stocktake and then plan for the year ahead.

So let’s look at the future… but first, we need to reevaluate the past. 

It’s important to look back and take stock so that you can focus on what worked and do more of it, but also, I want you to look at what you enjoyed and what you didn’t. Because there’s no point focusing on something that worked but you didn’t enjoy, unless you think you can learn to love it.

Ok, so now that we’ve looked back, here are some things that I believe will help you with your marketing in 2022.

As a boutique agency that manages a number of clients’ Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns we’re all for advertising. A larger number of people are using social media, and with that the number of business using social is rising too. This means it’s getting harder to be seen in the ever busy newsfeed.

This was true last year, and it’s even busier now.

Paid media can help your business be seen by your ideal clients and we say that 2022 is the year to venture into Facebook advertising (if you haven’t already).

1) Facebook is the largest social media platform 

At the time of recording this episode, Facebook has 2.9 billion active users per month! That’s a big number and the platform is growing on a daily basis. At the moment it’s growing at a rate of 7% year over year.

December is well and truly here!

It’s the end of November and we’re well and truly into the holiday swing here in Australia. Streets and shopping centres are decorated. Sale signs are coming out and it’s taking me longer to find a park near the shops.

Most of the time I feel immensely grateful for having an online business that’s seemingly not affected by the holiday madness.

My products and services aren’t particularly seasonal or affected by the Christmas frenzy, but yours might be different.

You may have thought about Facebook advertising in the lead up to Christmas but then reconsidered as you figure it will be busy online.

You’re not wrong and that’s what I want to talk about today. Let’s look at what will happen to the cost of Facebook ads heading into the holiday season (and why this shouldn’t stop you from advertising!)

So you have followed all the steps, you have implemented your pixels, created your images, written your copy and started your advertising campaign…. Only to see it fall flat on its face and get nothing in return.

Sadly I hear this story too many times.

I hear of entrepreneurs full of enthusiasm and optimism diving head first into Facebook ads, only to be disappointed with what they find…. Mostly an empty wallet and no results to show for.

You might have even taken some courses and if they’re anything to go by, you should have been swimming in your dollars already because we all know that Facebook ads make you money right?!

No.

At least, not in the way you think it does.

Plus, it’s not that easy.

After all, if Facebook ads just made you money, everyone would be doing it and you would be listening to this episode while sipping your pina colada on a beach somewhere.

We’re only a few weeks away from Black Friday. One of the biggest sales events worldwide.

Traditionally US based, Black Friday is now also quite ingrained in Australia and many retailers join in.  

In this episode I want to talk you about Black Friday, whether you should participate and if you do, whether you should advertise.

First of all, it’s entirely up to you to decide whether you want to participate in a Black Friday sale.

It’s a great opportunity to sell before Christmas, as Australia doesn’t traditionally have a pre-Christmas sale, but at the same time you don’t want to overdo it with sales either.

At least that’s my opinion.

At the moment though, it could be a good decision to participate as Australia post is recommending early shopping to ensure that parcels arrive.

So a Black Friday sale could be a way for you to get the last pre-Christmas sales through.

I often get asked what to spend on Facebook ads and to be honest, there is no right or wrong answer. 

Each of Facebook’s objectives will come with its own costs and results, which will be your indication of spend after testing some ads. 

It often also depends on the strategy and flow of your ads. For example, have you warmed up and nurtured your audience before showing them a sales ad? This approach often lowers your cost per sale and thus affects your budget. 

While there are benchmarks, it’s really hard to share those because each industry is different. So instead I’ll explain a bit more about some of the features and what they mean so you can analyse your own costs and determine your budget.
