This week on The Next Take Podcast, Canada’s own Mikel and Tanyka dive into how a Mediterranean-style breakfast may help fight inflammation, examine Ontario’s push to bring back mandatory sentencing, and break down a health unit’s warning as illnesses continue to rise across the province.
A Mediterranean-style breakfast can be a nutritious way to start the day while supporting an anti-inflammatory eating pattern. Built around foods such as whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and other minimally processed ingredients, the Mediterranean diet provides healthy fats, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Research suggests that regularly following this overall dietary pattern may help reduce certain markers of chronic inflammation while also supporting heart and metabolic health. Ontario is pushing for tougher consequences for serious and repeat offenders. The provincial government has called on Ottawa to strengthen Canada’s criminal justice system by restoring mandatory minimum sentences for certain serious crimes and introducing a “three-strikes” bail rule aimed at repeat offenders.(Via Source: Global News - Global News — Ontario wants return of mandatory minimum sentences, ‘three-strikes’ bail rule )
Health officials are warning residents to take extra precautions following an increase in gastrointestinal illnesses in parts of Ontario. Southeast Public Health says the rise in cases highlights the importance of preventing the spread of highly contagious stomach viruses, including norovirus. Residents are being encouraged to practise good hand hygiene, stay home when experiencing symptoms and take additional care around vulnerable individuals. Common symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, fever and fatigue. The warning serves as a reminder that even common illnesses can spread quickly throughout communities, making prevention and awareness important for protecting public health.
