Dan Zehner from NHERI (Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure) comes on the show to talk about some of the great things accomplished over NHERI’s first five years. We discuss the various NHERI institutions around the country which specialize in specific disaster mitigation and research efforts.

There’s also a great retrospective look at all the things the NHERI teams have accomplished over the last five years. Check out the free book available here for a complete look at the valuable information compiled by these dedicated engineers and disaster researchers.

We also touched on the tenth anniversary of the Fukashima Earthquake and Tsunami and some of the continuing aftermath of that unprecedented disaster. This led to a discussion on similar at-risk areas in the U.S. like the Cascadia Subduction Zone. That also prompted a look at recent mudslides around the world, including one major landslide in India that killed over 200 people.

Also on the show were Disaster Meteorologist and Emergency Management expert Becky DePodwin, Dr. Joe Holley from Paragon Medical Group and co-hosts Sam Bradley and Jamie Davis.
