Dr. Jim O’Connell, founder of the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program and author of the book “Rough Sleepers,” joined us again on NightSide to update us on where we’re at with combating homelessness in the city of Boston. We also heard about BHCP’s involvement with the ongoing cleanup at Boston’s Mass & Cass.

Two Chinese nationalists were arrested and charged by the FBI for running an illegal “police station” in NYC. In addition, the Department of Justice has charged dozens of Chinese intelligence and law enforcement officers operating in the U.S. for targeting Chinese dissidents through physical and cyber means. Dan got into this topic about how secret Chinese police stations have been operating here in the U.S. and how the DOJ is tackling it.

Hundreds of members of the Satanic Temple descended upon Boston this past weekend for what was called the largest satanic gathering in history. The sold-out three-day event was at Marriott Copley Place and included satanic rituals, entertainment, and discussion panels. The gathering left many unsettled. Dan heard listeners' thoughts on the uncommon gathering.

A judge in the Pentagon documents leaker case is mulling over prosecutors’ request to keep MA airman Jack Teixeira in jail or grant him a pretrial release. Evidence was discovered of Teixeira’s online presence that displayed his fascination with mass shootings and violence. In addition, authorities found several weapons, some high-capacity grade, at his home. Prosecutors argue Teixeira is a national security risk and should be held in jail until his trial. New information on the Pentagon leaker, MA Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira shows that the man used his high security clearance to search federal intelligence databases about mass shootings. In addition, Teixeira had an “arsenal of weapons that included high-capacity rifles and a bazooka.” Prosecutors argue he should be held in custody as he is “a grave threat to national security and a flight risk.”

An incident in San Francisco occurred where it appears a homeless person attacked a former fire commissioner with what appeared to be a metal pipe. The former commissioner had a fractured skull and broken jaw after the altercation. A new video and information has been released by the public defender that brings in to question the idea that the alleged victim had previously attacked other homeless individuals with bear spray. Dan discussed.
