As part of an effort to address housing affordability challenges in the U.S., the Federal Housing Finance Agency has introduced a new policy that raises mortgage fees for borrowers with strong credit while lowering fees for higher-risk borrowers. Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby joined Dan to discuss some of the concerns with the Biden Admin’s new policy set to begin May 1st.

New information on the Pentagon leaker, MA Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira shows that the man used his high security clearance to search federal intelligence databases about mass shootings. In addition, Teixeira had an “arsenal of weapons that included high-capacity rifles and a bazooka.” Prosecutors argue he should be held in custody as he is “a grave threat to national security and a flight risk.”

An incident in San Francisco occurred where it appears a homeless person attacked a former fire commissioner with what appeared to be a metal pipe. The former commissioner had a fractured skull and broken jaw after the altercation. A new video and information has been released by the public defender that brings in to question the idea that the alleged victim had previously attacked other homeless individuals with bear spray. Dan discussed.

The U.S. Supreme Court will take up the decision of whether public officials can block their constituents from their social media accounts when their accounts are being used to communicate with the public for their job. A block might be issued due to harassment, criticism, or expressed difference of opinion. What is your take on this decision? Do you think public officials should be allowed to block their own constituents on social media? Why or why not?

In the wake of the Supreme Court decision that ruled in favor of a Christian group’s right to fly their flag outside Boston’s City Hall just like any other group, MA cities and towns are still wrestling with flaps over flags. What types of messages should be allowed on municipal flag poles? How do you draw a line if at all when it comes to what to allow and what to deny?

Dan spoke on NightSide about MassINC Polling Group’s recent poll that showed most BPS parents are in favor of increased police presence and metal detectors in schools. Peterson shared his thoughts on what he believes is needed in BPS.

The MassINC Polling Group conducted a poll of 828 Boston district parents and asked their opinion on public safety in schools. The poll found that a majority of Black, Asian, and Latino parents either strongly supported or somewhat supported metal detectors in schools. Dan broke down the full results of the poll and asked listeners their opinion on what safety measures are needed in Boston Public Schools.
