Kya aapne kabhi kisise pyaar kiya? Kya kabhi kisiko dil diya?

Humne bhi diya.

F se Field, Issh se Isshq is a series of audio stories emerging from the lived realities, desires and fantasies. All these narratives help us understand our encounters with sexuality by centering the psyche. 

These stories emerged in a facilitated setting: Participants were discussing their dangerous pleasures and pleasurable dangers, while Jaya and Archana took them through concepts like the Charmed Circle by Gayle Rubin or Jacques Lacan’s articulation of how prohibition eroticises. 

These ideas are usually thought and written about in English (or, you know, French), and we translated and transliterated them in Hindi, so that we can write our own experiences in a language that is closer to us, as intimate and varied as the experiences shared here. 

The stories that emerged after this process surprised even the people who wrote them. There were moments of intimacy, discovery, hope, astonishment, shame, helplessness, betrayal - stuff that is often buried within us. Be it the bliss of reaching the pinnacle of pleasure in a jungle, the pain of a hidden love bite, or the burden of 'what could have been'.

Some writers preferred anonymity, and their names have been changed in the stories.

“फ से फ़ील्ड और इश्श से इश्क” प्यार, फंतासियां, चाहतें, गुस्सा, मोहब्बतें…इस ऑडियो सीरिज़ में सबकुछ है. चाहतें, मज़ा और खतरा के अपने-अपने अनुभव जो देश के कौने-कौने से निकली हैं. ये कहानियां नारीवादी नज़रिये से यौनिकता को देखने को देखने की कोशिश कर रही हैं जिसके केन्द्र में हमारा अवचेतन है. 

लेकिन ये कहानियां यूं नहीं तैयार हो गईं. इसकी शुरुआत होती है हमारे एक वर्कशॉप से जहां हम साइकी या अवचेतन के चश्मे से यौनिकता को देखने का मतलब क्या होती है और इससे हम क्या समझते हैं जैसे प्रश्नों पर बातचीत करने बैठे थे. और तभी हमने गेल रूबीन के चार्म सर्किल और जैक लकां के ‘मनाही कामुकता जगाती है’ के विचारों को भी विस्तार से जानने की कोशिश की कैसे ये हमें हमारी यौनिकता, हमारी चाहतों को समझने में मदद कर रहे हैं।  

जया शर्मा और अर्चना द्विवेदी, हमारे दोनों मेंटर्स ने हमें खुद की जिंदगी में झांककर ऐसे पल या घटनाओं की ओर देखने को कहा जहां हमें खतरे के बारे में मालूम था लेकिन फिर भी मज़ा आया, या मज़ा आया ही इसलिए क्योंकि वहां खतरा था. हमारा दावा है कि इन कहानियों को सुनकर आपके मन में भी ऐसे कई सवाल आएंगे और हो सकता पहले से मौजूद कुछ सवालों के जवाब भी मिल जाएं. जो भी होगा ये अहसास, ये कहानियां अपनी सी लगेंगी।  

दिल और दिमाग में इतनी चाहतें हैं पर अभी भी इनके बारे में बात करना आसान नहीं. यही वजह है कि इन कहानियों के ज़्यादातर लेखकों ने अपना नाम गुप्त रखने की गुज़ारिश की है। इसलिए हमने उनके नाम बदल दिए हैं।

Sounds of mourning and celebration are overlapping in the neighbourhood. Sharafat Bhai's

life is going to change completely after his first wife's death as he is set to marry a younger

girl. Will the doe-like youthful beauty that he adores and worships age well? Or, will time

play its game and turn happiness into jealousy? Sexuality is, after all, a fickle mistress. 

This thrilling story is written by Ismat Chughtai and has been published in the book 'Chidi ki

Dukki' by Vani Prakashan. We have edited this story for the purpose of this podcast.

Nasreen from Kashmiri Gate tells us how rooftops play a double-edged role in a young girl’s life. As she takes us through the city as she has lived and experienced it, we jump across states, only to find her running and gasping for breath. 

In the second part of her narrative, Nasreen revisits the days spent on her terrace in Kolkata, where she looks upon a city in which there is an impending marriage she wants nothing to do with. Feeling trapped, she goes to the terrace. There she witnesses something that changes the course of her life. Listen to the entire audio to follow Nasreen on her chhat across cities and time.

Nasreen has participated in the Travel Log programme with The Third Eye for its City Edition. The Travel Log mentored 13 writers and image-makers from across India’s bylanes, who reimagine the idea of the city through a feminist lens.

In the last episode of "Sarita aur Madam", Krupa shares a lasting memory of Sarita as she knocks at Prayas' door once again, this time with a desire to learn.

At TTE, we are very invested in expanding the notion of the field, and bring to life the lives of various people who make a field humane. In this case, it’s the social worker who works in prison, and the deep relationships that she forms with those on the other side of the law.

In F se Field, J se Jail, we bring you four very-short stories narrated by a social worker who tells us of her long-term client and friend, Sarita. Over the last 10 months, we have been conducting writing workshops with 5 social workers from Prayas, a field action project which does social work intervention in the Criminal Justice System. It is housed in the Centre for Criminology and Justice in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

This set of stories developed from the prompt, "Write the description of a place of work and introduce your characters through that place." Letters are narrated, written, and edited by Krupa Shah. Special Thanks to Sharon Menezes for proposing this idea and putting us in touch with this amazing group of women.

सरिता और मैडम के इस चौथे और आखिरी एपिसोड में कृपा उस याद को साझा कर रही है जब सरिता एक बार फिर प्रयास के पास आती है लेकिन इस बार वो कुछ और ही चाहती है, इस बार वो सीखना चाहती है. 

द थर्ड आई में हमारा काम फ़ील्ड की समझ को विस्तार देना भी है. हम फ़ील्ड पर काम करने वाले लोगों की कहानियों को सामने लाने का प्रयास करते हैं जो अपने अनोखे अंदाज़ के साथ इसे जीवंत बनाते हैं. पिछले साल 2023 में हमने प्रयास संस्था के साथ जुड़ी सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ काम करना शुरू किया था. प्रयास, टाटा सामाजिक विज्ञान संस्थान (TISS) का फ़ील्ड एक्शन प्रोजेक्ट है जो आपराधिक न्याय व्यवस्था के क्षेत्र में सामाजिक कार्य करता है.

पिछले 10 महीनों में हमने प्रयास संस्था के साथ काम करने वाली पांच सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ मिलकर जेल के भीतर उनकी उपस्थिति, उनका काम, जेल के साथ उनका क्या रिश्ता है जैसे तमाम पहलुओं को जानने-समझने का काम किया. हमने साथ मिलकर कई कार्यशालाएं कीं और जो सामने आया उसे हम आपके साथ साझा कर रहे हैं. एक कार्यशाला के दौरान हमने जब उनसे कहा कि, ‘आप जहां काम करती हैं उसके बारे में बताएं और उस जगह पर आप किनसे मिलते हैं उसके बारे में भी बताएं’

इन चिट्ठियों को लिखने, इसे संपादित करने और रेडियो पर आवाज़ देने का काम कृपा शाह ने किया है. हम टाटा इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर सोशल साइंस (TISS) से जुड़ी शेरोन मेनेज़ेस का भी शुक्रिया अदा करना चाहते जिन्होंने हमारा ध्यान इस ओर खींचा और जेल में काम करने वाली सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं से हमारी मुलाकात करवाई.

द थर्ड आई में हमारा काम फ़ील्ड की समझ को विस्तार देना भी है. हम फ़ील्ड पर काम करने वाले लोगों की कहानियों को सामने लाने का प्रयास करते हैं जो अपने अनोखे अंदाज़ के साथ इसे जीवंत बनाते हैं. पिछले साल 2023 में हमने प्रयास संस्था के साथ जुड़ी सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ काम करना शुरू किया था. प्रयास, टाटा सामाजिक विज्ञान संस्थान (TISS) का फ़ील्ड एक्शन प्रोजेक्ट है जो आपराधिक न्याय व्यवस्था के क्षेत्र में सामाजिक कार्य करता है. पिछले 10 महीनों में हमने प्रयास संस्था के साथ काम करने वाली पांच सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ मिलकर जेल के भीतर उनकी उपस्थिति, उनका काम, जेल के साथ उनका क्या रिश्ता है जैसे तमाम पहलुओं को जानने-समझने का काम किया. हमने साथ मिलकर कई कार्यशालाएं कीं और जो सामने आया उसे हम आपके साथ साझा कर रहे हैं. एक कार्यशाला के दौरान हमने जब उनसे कहा कि, ‘आप जहां काम करती हैं उसके बारे में बताएं और उस जगह पर आप किनसे मिलते हैं उसके बारे में भी बताएं’

इन चिट्ठियों को लिखने, इसे संपादित करने और रेडियो पर आवाज़ देने का काम कृपा शाह ने किया है.

हम टाटा इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर सोशल साइंस (TISS) से जुड़ी शेरोन मेनेज़ेस का भी शुक्रिया अदा करना चाहते जिन्होंने हमारा ध्यान इस ओर खींचा और जेल में काम करने वाली सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं से हमारी मुलाकात करवाई.

We all remember the lockdown. Some remember it like yesterday and others believe it happened a long time ago. But, what did 2020 look like for sex workers and social workers?

In the Episode 2 of "Sarita aur Madam", Krupa tells us Sarita's response to the lockdown. 

At TTE, we are very invested in expanding the notion of the field, and bring to life the lives of various people who make a field humane. In this case, it’s the social worker who works in prison, and the deep relationships that she forms with those on the other side of the law. In F se Field, J se Jail, we bring you four very-short stories narrated by a social worker who tells us of her long-term client and friend, Sarita. 

Over the last 10 months, we have been conducting writing workshops with 5 social workers from Prayas, a field action project which does social work intervention in the Criminal Justice System. It is housed in the Centre for Criminology and Justice in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). This set of stories developed from the prompt, "Write the description of a place of work and introduce your characters through that place." 

Letters are narrated, written, and edited by Krupa Shah.

द थर्ड आई में हमारा काम फ़ील्ड की समझ को विस्तार देना भी है. हम फ़ील्ड पर काम करने वाले लोगों की कहानियों को सामने लाने का प्रयास करते हैं जो अपने अनोखे अंदाज़ के साथ इसे जीवंत बनाते हैं. तो, इस बार हमारे साथ हैं महाराष्ट्र के जेल में काम करने वाली एक सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता जो अपने क्लाइंट (जेल में बंद महिला कैदी जिनके साथ सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता काम करती हैं) के साथ रोज़मर्रा की कहानियों को हमारे साथ साझा कर रही हैं.
