Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:12-16; 3:18-19a
Synopsis: Human "wisdom" apart from the wisdom of God leads not only to significant error and to a poor grasp of reality (and, thus, to an unfulfilled life and community), but it also leads to self-assured confidence that believes it is strong but, ultimately, is profoundly weak. Ironically, the world considers the Christian faith to be foolish when in fact only in Christ can the eternal truths of life be found. Leaning on the wisdom of Christ is the only means through which fallible humans in the church can live in the fullness of their design and call.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:10-11
Synopsis: From the beginning, the church was a messy phenomenon. Yet, this messy church is the only vehicle God used to bring about the expansion of His kingdom through the centuries. The reality is, this is how real church is. As we journey toward the culmination of God's kingdom at the end of time, the journey will be a messy one, with many stumbles. But this is the nature of the redemption and sanctification of rehabilitating sinners doing community as the family of God. The call of the believers is to journey and labor together in the messy reality that is church, and to realize the gospel's redemptive call in it all.

The longer we live, the more jaded we can become about life, and the longer we live our Christian faith, the possibility of becoming dull to the message of salvation becomes greater. The sinful woman shows us how when we become undone before the Lord, Christ will refresh our souls and transform our lives with the truth and power of the gospel.
