No Bad Ideas episodes

  • Stuck In The System

We’re back with two more bad ideas from The Future… and the future is now.

Zach starts us off with an entrepreneurial idea that will surely have no unintended consequences and we turn it into a thriller that starts with the Stasi and ends among the stars. Then Sarah has a dilemma from the world of online education, which we turn into a con that brings a whole university together.

Plus: our ten minute TedTalks, a week of white void, nearly-there technology, the reference squad, and the five least believable words in the English language.

  • Gotta Improvise, Baby

We’re wasting no time and jumping from zero to sixty with the bad ideas this week. Gabriel starts us off with a car thief who found way more than they bargained for in a stolen vehicle. A deeply strange riff on the buddy comedy ensues. Then Sara raises, if not the dead, then a standoff between man and ghost. We turn it into a story full of supernatural misunderstandings and misplaced confidence.

Plus: the weirdest meet-cute, Ghostbuster merch, blinding nativity, small things going wrong, and a sublime lack of self-awareness.

  • Stylish But Illegal
We’re back for another round of Bad Ideas Mayhem! And oh, oh the places that this week's bad ideas will go.
This time Zach starts us off with a very unconventional trip to Ikea, which we then turn into the charming (?) story of a burgeoning young artist who just so happens to be a monkey on the run from Animal Control Officer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Then it’s Gabriel’s turn… to bring back a blast from No Bad Ideas past. We already covered a flight to nowhere. Now, we take the story of a man who chose to be stuck in an airport and turn it into the story of a group of people who need to save their airport home… by making it run better.
Plus: Christmas-Present-Level headlines, remakes of the Prisoner, five to nine street cats in a trenchcoat, free chicken nugs, and how you can make more money with a flop than with a flight.

  • Granny's Gonna Granny
And we're back! For our first full show of 2021, the Bad Ideas crew wastes no time, hitting the ground running with stories about Satanism, arson, dystopian government, and grandmothers!
For our first story of the year, Zach brings us a story about a group of Satanists who are looking for justice after one of their historic properties burns down. The gang turns it into a story of a young go-getter who is forced to reconnect with his roots, and face up to the past he's tried so hard to leave behind. Then, Sarah's story about a group of elderly women who need to party is one of our briefest bad ideas ever, but it is turned into one of our grandest tales yet. A story about an evil totalitarian government, the courageous resistance fighters that rose up against it, and the redemptive power of song.
All of that, plus: small town Satanism, setpieces involving goats, power vacuums, wellness checks, and leader-approved music.

  • Bad Ideas Classic: Experience of a Lifetime (With Emma Sherr-Ziarko)
Good news, everyone! The No Bad Ideas hiatus is almost over! We've rested, we've recuperated, and we are rearing to get back to recording new episodes of the show. So look for new installments of No Bad Ideas starting next Thursday. But first, one last classic episode - one of our favorites, and starring one of our favorite guests we've ever had on the show!
This week, we’re lucky to be joined by the luminous Emma Sherr-Ziarko - voice actor, writer, podcast creator, wine expert, and cat mom extraordinaire. There’s nothing Emma can’t do, so naturally we decided to throw some truly questionable ideas at her!
First Gabriel takes us to A Short Time Ago and A Galaxy Very Close, with a very unorthodox candidate for high public office who claims to be able to slice through the red tape and get things done - with a lightsaber. Then Sarah sails us down to the Indian Ocean, and a very special rock concert designed for an audience that really has teeth - five to six layers of them.
And finally we talk to Emma about her love of storytelling, how learning about wine has taught her more about the world, and what it takes to start a podcast.
Plus: literal satire, delusional doors, Emperors of America, many, many, jumping the shark jokes, and one last really stupid thing.

    Color Of Change
    Additional Resources
No Bad Ideas is going to be on a bit of a hiatus until January 21st. Never fear: while we're gone, we're going to be sharing some of our favorite old school Bad Ideas episodes!
Avast! On today's No Bad Ideas, Gabriel brings Zach and Sarah a tale of love gone wrong and not-so-smooth sailing on the high seas. Will the three of them be able to take the strange tale of a woman's very unique divorce and turn it into a pirate ghost romantic comedy fueled by Bermuda Triangle craziness?
Plus, the Ghost Rewrite of Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, method piracy, and the It's a Small World After All Cruise.

  • Bad Ideas Classic: Chicken á la Proust (With Cecilia Lynn-Jacobs)
    The Innocence Project
    The Okra Project
    The Marshall Project
    Color Of Change
    Additional Resources
No Bad Ideas is going to be on a bit of a hiatus for a little while, as Zach, Sarah, and Gabriel focus on wrapping up the first season of Unseen. Never fear: while we're gone, we're going to be sharing some of our favorite old school Bad Ideas episodes!
The brilliant Cecilia Lynn-Jacobs returns to the Bad Ideas HQ for two more chilling tales of human absurdity and preposterousness!
In the first story, an article of a woman's sidewalk going missing leads the gang to Rick Streetman, P.I., an investigator for whom no case is too small... although lots of cases are too big! Then, Sarah delves back into Reddit's Am I the Asshole? minefield, and emerges with a story of an intellectual so insufferable, the gang must resort to post-modernism to tell his story.
All of that, plus cool basement jokes, cigarillos, roman à clefs, aliens who are also fools, and an "Everybody Loves Me" tour.

  • Bad Ideas Classic: An Army Of Tom Hardys (With Eugenio Vargas)
No Bad Ideas is going to be on a bit of a hiatus for a little while, as Zach, Sarah, and Gabriel focus on wrapping up the first season of Unseen. Never fear: while we're gone, we're going to be sharing some of our favorite old school Bad Ideas episodes!
We rolled a natural 20 on guests this week, as we’re joined by the DM of The Last Refuge podcast, Eugenio Vargas!
And we certainly could use Eugenio’s help with the two massive gaffs from across the Pond we’re dealing with. First, Zach brings us the strangest tutoring service we’ve ever heard of, which we turn into a dark comedy of mentoring a tiny dictator. Then, Gabriel brings us a thief with one of the largest rap sheets in Ireland, and we use it to craft a tv show about intrepid characters who are bad at crime, but surprisingly good at criminal law.
Plus: Disneyworld rules, the Armando Iannucci filter, two full years worth of theft, the Penguin’s intern, and the childlike wonder of Venom.

  • Bad Ideas Classic: The Mouse Always Wins (With Noah Masur)
No Bad Ideas is going to be on a bit of a hiatus for a little while, as Zach, Sarah, and Gabriel focus on wrapping up the first season of Unseen. Never fear: while we're gone, we're going to be sharing some of our favorite old school Bad Ideas episodes!
We recruited one of the most brilliant voice actors and storytellers we know, the international man of mystery, Noah Masur, to join us in the bad ideas hot seat!
First, Sarah slides us details about how a closely guarded Star Wars script ended up on eBay, which leads to a frenetic, cross-country thriller Disney would never, ever allow to be made. Then, Noah turns the tables on us and brings us the story of the man who survived a Samurai sword attack by his girlfriend - which, in our version, was maybe just the spark they both needed. Finally, we were lucky enough to trick Noah into sharing some of his thoughts on comedy: why it can be timeless but is always ephemeral, the Internet's effect on comedy and culture, and the challenges of translating humor.
Plus: going to the paradox place, tracking the Internet, training to be e-thletes, rejecting objective truth, and partying with John Boyega's boys.

  • Bad Ideas Classic: Drone Season Is Open
No Bad Ideas is going to be on a bit of a hiatus for a little while, as Zach, Sarah, and Gabriel focus on wrapping up the first season of Unseen. Never fear: while we're gone, we're going to be sharing some of our favorite old school Bad Ideas episodes!
In this week's first episode, we see some awful ideas take flight in multiple senses of that word. First, Sarah brings us to one of our favorite Internet neighborhoods, NextDoor, and a litigious situation that escalates into Jurassic Park 7. Next, Zach makes us fear the sky, with a story about roving drones worthy of Alfred Hitchcock himself.
Plus, very relatable situations, zero chill ideas, the old coot that nobody likes, an EMP for bees, and a The Birds joke worth every second.
