  • We Are Not A Con (With Elena Fernández Collins)
We are overjoyed this week to be joined by the host of Radio Drama Revival, critic extraordinaire, and one of the flat-out smartest folks we know, Elena Fernández Collins!
We put her story sense to extremely silly use, as our first idea begins with some hapless thieves who may or may not have realized they were making off with 20,000 pounds of Wisconsin cheese. But by the end, we set up a Best In Show-style mockumentary building up to a prestigious conference of food thieves. Next, we dive into a particularly morbid fundraising scam, and, naturally, add some magic to it.
Plus: Creepy death scams, the newest member of Silicon Valley, airhead Chris Evans, that one chaos child, and not enough cheese.

  • Episode 105: Supernatural Prom (With Mischa Stanton)
This week we are excited to have a true podcasting powerhouse join us. Sound designer of many, many shows, the great Mischa Stanton has agreed to step (virtually) into the NBI hot seat!
And oh do we have some tall tales for Mischa to turn into good stories. We begin with a pan flute orchestra, trapped in a haunted castle, surrounded by wolves, which could all be stories in themselves. But together we create a heartwarming battle of the bands that solves a feud between supernatural beings. Then, we look at a fantasy of a very different sort, and an address mix-up that leads us to a slice of life mini-series anthology about a group of people who have all shared a truly bizarre experience.
Plus: vampire conventions, rag-tag bands, standard equipment for Australians, real franchise potential, and clear eyes, pumping hearts, can’t lose.

  • Episode 103: Birds Have No Boundaries (With Sara Ghaleb)
This week we’re delighted to be joined by co-creator of the fabulous Arden podcast and official Very Funny Person, Sara Ghaleb!
We begin with a road trip for the ages (specifically the ages of 5-13) and turn it into a heartwarming, if slightly Freaky Friday, family drama. Then we embark on our first two part bad idea - a tale of tension between two countries, and the pigeon caught between them. Naturally, we turn it into the teen romance Armando Iannucci doesn’t know he needs to make.
Plus: Digital detox, the whisper network, the best codebreakers in the world, the problem with Fast Five, and reasons we’re done with birds.

  • Episode 102: New Phone, Who Me? (With Meghan Fitzmartin)
Today on No Bad Ideas, special guest star Meghan Fitzmartin returns to help us tackle another bad idea!
Sarah brings us a story of one person's telecommunication identity mix-up, one with possibly very far-reaching implications. The team does their best to come up with a story that balances great responsibility in the face of great power and taking the privileged around you for all their worth. Then, we have a conversation with Meghan about her approach to writing and creativity, as well as the recurring themes that pop up in our work over and over and over again.
All of that, plus: wholesome creatures, raised eyebrows, recurring thematic worries, extreme versions of reality, and the challenge of proving a negative.

  • Episode 101: Home On The Rage (With Meghan Fitzmartin)
Happy Monday! We’re delighted to be joined this week by one of our favorite podcast pals/agents of chaos, the extraordinary writer, Meghan Fitzmartin!
We’re especially excited because we’ve roped Meghan into a pair of truly absurd notions today. First, Gabriel introduces us to the concept (and the very real architectural examples) of spite houses. We find them charming, because of course we do, and create a Ghibli-style love story where there’s more than just a Castle In The Sky. Then, Zach brings us the tale of an unusual audience for a sporting event, and we turn it into a tale of identity, personhood, and robot sex dolls.
Plus: Miyazaki’s physics, next-level attempted scapegoating, New Yorker think-piece friendly, the philosophical zombie question, and the Beatrice and Benedict of Houses.
