In this episode, I talk about steps you can take while you're in nursing school to help you land your first job. The process of getting a job can be overwhelming, so if you can start to grow your network, talk to hiring managers, connect with recruiters, and gradually document your experiences in nursing school, I believe your future self will be so thankful. Help secure your dream job by starting all these things early, so you can build your nursing foundation in a place you feel supported and safe to grow into the amazing nurse you know you can be.

In this episode, I talk about floating!! I suggest ways to get through the shift when you're pulled from your unit and asked to help on another. Especially as a newer nurse, this can be very stressful and overwhelming. I offer tips to improve communication and ways to ensure you feel safe taking care of your patients even if you are unfamiliar with the population. Floating can be a great opportunity to make new friends, learn new things, and to build that trust in yourself that you are a strong, competent nurse! Who knows, maybe you'll love the experience, and one day you'll want to join me as a float pool RN! :D

In this episode, I talk about why we should be kinder to the nurses on the other shift. As a former "rotater" I spent so much time on each shift during my first two years as a nurse and have an appreciation for both. Recently, I spent 2 weeks on nights and was very clearly reminded of the challenges of both days and nights. Let's take some time to consider what it's like for everyone before throwing shade or placing blame. Nursing can be extremely tough at any hour of the day, and we all really could use a little more grace and love as we handoff in between shifts.

I also share some of my own studying habits I picked up along the way in school that helped me succeed in my accelerated program while still doing the things I loved to do in my life. In this episode, I talk about giving yourself permission to say yes when someone offers to help you during your busy days as a nurse. I suggest kind and respectful ways to use your voice to ask for help when you need it. Avoid slipping into hyper-independence mode and taking on too much in your days. You are deserving of a hand, and remember,  accepting help does not make you any less of a nurse!

In this episode, I talk about ways to physically and emotionally put your day down and leave work where it belongs. You are not your career and you deserve to go home feeling free of any emotions you adopted or absorbed during the day. Let's avoid burn out by caring for ourselves and protecting our energy.
