NO ENCORE

No better man for the job, really.

NO ENCORE welcomes back the always-welcome tongue-twisting-troubadour that is Paddy Hanna as he gears up for some autumn live dates where the emphasis on the performing arts has rarely been so sharp.

Speaking of, how about reminiscing on times when it all went wrong? How does five of 'em sound?

We've all the usual fun and games elsewhere, and your weekly reminder to hit up the NO ENCORE Patreon for high-frequency episodic bonus content - our Scream retrospective is out now, while Adam has a new Album Club ready to go.

As for this week...

ACT ONE: Preamble. Ramble. You know the drill.

ACT TWO (19:43): News! Bob Vylan's Dublin date gets a legal challenge, Fontaines D.C. tribute acts battle for attention, Jeremy Allen White doesn't need celebrity help to play Bruce Springsteen, Spotify supremo Daniel Ek makes a big career move, Mariah Carey finally publicly embraces her grunge icon status, Madonna sees the (ray of) light, and Axl Rose vows to save humanity's future.

ACT THREE (50:55): Top 5 Paddy Hanna Disasters.

We hope you have the time of your life, listener, as NO ENCORE turns the dial to all things Green Day with the help of pop-punk enthusiast and esteemed culture critic Chris Wasser.

Having delivered a definitive Blink-182 Top 5 last year, Chris returns to put Billie Joe and the boys in the spotlight.

And speaking of spotlight - have you checked out the latest NO ENCORE QUIZ yet? It's Dave versus Craig, it's Quizmaster Mark, it's live over on patreon.com/noencore right now.

Up next, Film Club returns with a comprehensive examination of the Scream franchise. Sign up today for a mere five euro per month!

As for the podcast prime...

ACT ONE: Preamble.

ACT TWO (14:57): The news section dissects the Jimmy Kimmel fiasco, the depressing cost of AI-generated 'art', the upsetting flesh-and-blood shackles of the music industry, the alarming collapse of entertainment journalism, the impressive perpetual motion of Harry Styles, and a Reznor-sharp example of the strange phenomenon that is localised American TV news.

ACT THREE (1:01:50): Top 5 Green Day Songs

It's another collision of movies and music on NO ENCORE as the great Ailbhe Reddy returns to the studio with a killer cinematic Top 5 in tow.

That's right, it's movie soundtracks superior to the motion picture itself. Controversial? Probably!

Also - do not miss our next NO ENCORE Patreon release; it's a brand new quiz in which guest quizmaster Mark Conroy steps up to the mic as Dave challenges Craig for question-based supremacy. That lands Monday @ patreon.com/noencore - sign up today for a mere five euro.

As for this week, let's get on down to it, shall we?

ACT ONE: Ailbhe Reddy opens up about new single 'Align', her pivot to writing, and the different creative spaces she finds herself between right now.

ACT TWO (32:03): News - Coldplay shout out Charlie Kirk, Clipse ascend to a higher plain, Ed Sheeran reveals his posthumous plans, Avril Lavigne pivots to wine, and Scooby-Doo is officially hipster.

ACT THREE (1:01:56): Top 5 Movie Soundtracks Better Than The Movie Itself.

Add your song to the queue and warm up the vocal chords ahead of your big performance, listener.

We've all got a karaoke song, right? Of course. In keeping with that thought, Dave and Adam welcome the Boy Party podcast's co-hosts Lucien Waugh-Daly and Shane Kelly to showcase their choices for the best karaoke performances that have been represented on your screens, either via the medium of film or television. Let's see what they decide to sing their praises of...

Speaking of singing praises, don't forget to join us over on the NO ENCORE Patreon where Adam is speaking very highly of Addison Rae's debut album from June this year and where Dave and Andy McCarroll may or may not be giving Kevin Smith's Dogma from 1999 its flowers next week as part of our Patreon-exclusive Album Club and Film Club respectively; all for just €5 per month.

As for this episode, here's how the stage is set:

ACT ONE: The preamble, in which we ramble

ACT TWO (10:05): Lucien reports on the Venice Film Festival, Mercury Prize shortlist announced, Michael Jackson's biopic is proving divisive already, Stereogum provides a review roundup of Charli XCX onscreen, one step closer to the AI apocalypse, Lizzo theorises why there are no 'songs of the summer' and Sting gets stung; it's the news

ACT THREE (56:33): Top 5 Movies & TV Karaoke.

We've got our eyes on you, listener...

David Balfe, also known as For Those I Love, joins Dave and Adam in studio to focus his lens on five of the finest songs about watching and being watched for his first in-person appearance on the podcast.

And of course that's not all as we have much to discuss after the busiest weekend in the Irish festival calendar came and went, and plenty more music news for you to boot.

Let's zoom in...

ACT ONE: A discussion around David's latest For Those I Love album Carving The Stone, his creative process and getting back to live shows.

ACT TWO (47:39): Electric Picnic debrief corner sees us ring the Benn Bong, an association football/music crossover takes up by surprise, a new presidential candidate emerges and a concert-goer gets beaten up for beating off– it's the news.
