  • Episode 012 - No Labels, No Limits - with Alison Gaulden, Advocate, Mentor and Lecturer
This week's guest has been on a nonstop journey of change and transition in her personal and professional life. Alison Gaulden joins us for Episode 12 and shares her story starting out as a painfully-shy student in high school and progressing through to becoming a reproductive rights advocate, a student mentor and a Lecturer at Reynolds School of Journalism. She has overcome many challenges, obstacles and important losses, but she still holds on to her sassy, unapologetic spirit and encourages other women to do the same. She says, "Happiness doesn't come to you when you do all the right things. Every day you have to get up and decide, no matter what crappy things are going to happen, I'm going to be happy...look at what you are putting out there, what energy, what approach you have, and reassess if it's not working for you, what can you do that's different?"

  • Episode 011 - No Labels, No Limits - with Melissa Smith, PVA
Ever wish you could be "Location Independent"? You'd have no home base, traveling, balancing, running a company and managing family and responsibilities on the road. Melissa Smith has created that as her reality. Prior to her new career, she hadn't even considered the thought. A few years ago, she experienced the unexpected loss of her husband and was left in a fog for many months after. She decided to make the move back home to California from where she was in Georgia, to be surrounded by family and friends. Later, her daughter wanted to come back to her home in Georgia to graduate high school. Melissa had landed a job she loved and she didn't want to leave it, but needed to make the choice for her daughter. Then the concept of going out on her own and working virtually was born. Something in her gut propelled her forward through the unknown. Starting with an insatiable desire to learn. she built her empire. When looking at things today, she rarely finds herself without a coach or mentor and is involved in mastermind groups, speaking engagements, book groups, work summits, and many other event followings. Her recommendation is to "Let perfectionism go. It's impossible to get it exactly right the first time." www.thepva.com [email protected]

  • Episode 010 - No Labels, No Limits - with Susan Gomez, Perfecting Professional Transitions

Is a career change possible over 50? Susan Gomez is living proof that you can successfully change careers at any age! Listen in as she shares her story about personal and professional transition after 22 years working for the same non profit company. As a single mom, she had stayed, despite not feeling truly fulfilled. Just five years ago she began to restart her career path and faced her fears surrounding the big decisions to come, the feeling of overwhelm and loss of control. Her transformation was due, in part, to her taking on a new coach, the host of this podcast, Sarah Boxx.

Today, she says she is never without a coach or mentor of some sort. "Having a coach gives you the ability to make decisions in a different way. You now have the joy of saying what matters in your life. The joy of knowing that whatever, and even if you fail, it is the ability to know that you can take the risk. It opens up opportunities for every part of your life. It touches every part of your life, not just the career choices. It impacts family, self esteem, it impacts all aspects of one's life in such a positive way."

  • Episode 009 - No Labels, No Limits with Bobbi Albano, Real Estate Broker
Our next guest, Bobbi Albano, is a CFO turned Real Estate Broker who shares some of the lessons she's learned along the way. She speaks about taking advice from family and friends when you’re starting a business or undertaking a big change. Encouragingly, she says, remember that "it's not that they don't love you, it's not that they don't want you to succeed, it's that they're fearful for you. So guard yourself, understand that people come from their own point of view, and be very careful.” She also cautions with a word of advice about our time and dreams: "If you trade hours for dollars, you will never get ahead." Bobbi’s takeaway was, “if you're always in a job where you make a certain dollar amount per hour, you are actually selling your time to another person. They have purchased your time to help build their dream.”
