Nonplussed

We don’t have to stretch too far to reach the queer allegories in 2005’s Sky High… not unlike other comic worlds about powered students in school. We had a super time, and we think you will too. Clancy’s already getting his Mister Boy cosplay together.

Ee chee wa maa! This one was a doozy. We legitimately tried to use an English-to-Ewok translator to write more of this description, but the language is just as half-assed as the overall film. It somehow spawned a sequel and an animated series - despite it being half D&D one shot and half a poor, pale reflection of Fellowship of the Ring.

You’d think a movie about middle aged bears would be right up our back alley, but this was pooh. Compared to the other road trip movie featuring a bear, this one is the Ursa Minor. Maybe Dex’s fur is so riled because he has the barest emotional connection to his little cub.

Clancy has never seen The Muppet Movie. Can you beLIEVE dot gif? And Josh can barely remember it from his youth at all. So this was an absolute delight. A peek beneath the Muppet Stage: we had to cut nearly half an hour off this audio because we just kept gushing about how much we loved it. We hope you enjoy the goofery!

What is it about the hypersexualization of children in the mid-nineties? Disney was having a real hard time finding this audience in the 90s. At first we couldn’t get away from boobs and Nazis, now we can’t get away pubescent boy power fantasies.

Our aircon is back on, which means we’re back on track! This week, we’re covering the brand new metatextual delight that is Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. We only sort of wish this was Mr. Doubtfire, but a pastiche of detective stories that’s a spiritual successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? with a little bit of body horror and a whole lotta sight gags is just as delightful as Meryl in drag, no?

We’re replaying one of our kinda gay faves in honor of Pride month. Why? Because our a/c is out and there’s no way we can record without fans, portable A/C, a swamp cooler, and a healthy breeze ‘round our privates. Just turning the PC on in this room is an act of bravery.

Cars 2 fails to answer a question it poses not once, but at least three times: what was the make and model of Car Jesus? There is a Popemobile. There is an English monarchy. The heads of the Catholic and Anglican churches appear in this film, and I’m NOT supposed to wonder ab out Car Jesus? You mean I’m just supposed to focus on the CAR MURDERS? OH OK FINE I GUESS?

It’s here, it’s a little queer, get used to it: it’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! We’re going to catch you up on everything you need to know before kicking back and diving into the multiverse yourself.

Worried about spoilers? Fair! So were we. To help you out, we’ve got the following timestamps for when we get spoiler-y, by degrees!

33:55: Mild Spoilers. We finish discussing films/shows we *know* are referenced, and discuss Extra Credit viewing that *might* be informative, based on some speculation. 42:27 Mild-to-Moderate Spoilers. Discussing what and when things might be going on within the context of the film. More speculation. 75% potential for spoilers as we reference preview material. Details about the first ~15 minutes herein.

45:00 Spoiler Country! We’re picking apart the trailers and making direct connections. We will be accurately describing scenes from available previews/materials and their possible story connections

50:35:Speculating Wildly! Potential spoilers as we attempt to predict actual story beats. No promises. We could be right, we could be way off base.

58:30: Spoilers are done and we go into the wrap-up! Should be safe.
