Well howdy there folks, we have a meaty course for you all today in Chronic Illness Narratives, Care-Giving and Experience! I promise the next few will be lighter.

I have jumped back into transcribing the Chronicity Series *17 interviews with chronic illness sufferers mashed up into an 8 part series, so I must have had pain and illness on my mind when I recorded both of these interviews on the same day, with Moxie (http://yourbrainonfacts.com/) and Other Paul from Varmints! which he co-hosts with the amazing Donna (https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/varmints-230694)

Welcome back, its been a while, a whole 20 mins! Insomnia is back with ol Matty, so I figured..why not just publish another episode?!

Hold onto your Socialism folks, this is about to get very political! We start by getting into our original intended topic of “The Politics of/in Sports” by referencing the 1968 Summer Olympics (Mexico City) Human Rights salute by US track athletes John Carlos and Tommie Smith. I just now learned that all three medalists (including Silver winner from Australia, Peter Norman) all wore human rights badges on their jackets. That’s pretty interesting eh?

We then take a crazy Ivan *Sudden and Abrupt Left-Hand Turn, and just bash the shit out of America for like 25mins. Karrington made some great connections including video game and Star Wars analogies, a tough question from Matt (do you play as Nazi’s when you video game?), George W Bush’s “art” and the many ways the US has fallen from grace.

We share some experiences from our grandfather’s who both served in the Air Force (M served in WW2 and he shares his story) before discussing how combat vets tend to come back as pacifists.

By no means folks, this is not Matty looking down his regal Canadian nose at y’all, the developments down south are disturbing and I think we all are just trying to make sense of stuff.

In part 2 Paul asks Matty to condense down the Canadian First Nation’s (Indigenous) experience and relate it to the African American experience in relation to structural inequalities, historicity and police violence. So…meaty!

I have a good friend who is Métis and works in the health field, have wanted to have her on since we started the show, maybe just maybe I left room for her to expound and correct, maybe that’s why this topic came up, or maybe its coincidence or more likely the parallels are there and glaring! IDK

After that heaviness, Paul lightens things up by talking about the weight he lost, and how his new approach to “wellness living” has inspired his much better half to join him in climbing a former Confederate battle ground, 4 times a week, and it seems like they don’t even fight about it at all! Proud of you Amanda, but Paul is way more proud :-)

Keep being inspirational you two!! Still waiting for those tamales you were supposed to mail up here…disappointed for sure Amanda :-(

What you are about to hear is two good friends checking in on one another, one from Georgia *we start here, the other a self-satisfied Canadian (me).

This is a very political conversation touching on all the topics, with a special focus on Georgia and COVID before digging fairly deep into the #BLM demonstrations and activism that has occurred. Because we live within intersectional times and these are intersectional political issues (translation: complex and mutually informing factors) I would say, listen, hit share if you like, and check out the links below (these will change every episode)
