As California continues to suffer from devastating

wildfires, the state is looking to an ancient method of prevention.

Over the past two years, California has been devastated by the

worst wildfires in its history. As those fires continue to grow in frequency

and intensity, the state has begun to fight fire with fire.  Felicity Barringer, editor and lead writer at

the Bill Lane Center for the American West talked with KRCB’s Adia White about

the benefits of controlled burns.

When pot was used in secret, the pungent smoke was often a

giveaway. Today, the odor is an issue again. This time, it’s the skunky smell

of growing cannabis.

California voters approved adult use of cannabis in 2016.

But pot remains subject to a crazy quilt of local ordinances and rules.

Supervisor Lynda Hopkins likens regulating cannabis to building a plane while

flying it. She spoke with KRCB’s Nate Charles.

commander at the Santa Rosa Police Department, Rainer Navarro became the new

police chief of Santa Rosa. He is the first Latino police chief of the

department.

KRCB’s Adia White asks Navarro what’s different about him.

Navarro says his priority is community policing. He also

says he wants to focus on transparency, accountability and leveraging

Changes in how math is taught can prove challenging for

parents trying to help their kids with homework.

It’s August and kids in Sonoma County are back in school.

But, as students seek help with their math homework, parents are often stumped.

Math in the modern age is taught differently, and that makes it harder for

adults to help. NPR “Math Guy” Keith Devlin shares his thoughts on this dilemma

with KRCB News Director Steve Mencher.
