Teen parents in Sonoma County may soon be on their own,

after a program dedicated to helping them raise their kids lost most of its

funding. 

The aftermath of the October 2017 wildfires will be felt in

Sonoma County for years to come, but in ways you might not expect. This year,

the County lost nearly 6 million dollars in property tax revenue due to the

fires and the resulting budget cuts could have lasting impacts on the health of

teenage parents. KRCB’s Adia White tells us why.

Wells Fargo and Bank of the West have been investing in Core

Civic and GEO Group, the two main private prison companies running detention

centers on the border. Sonoma County currently has investments in these two

major banks.

On July 23rd, protestors gathered to call on the Sonoma

County Board of Supervisors. Their demand? 

Begin a process that could lead the county to divest taxpayers’ money

from the two banks. But when do ethics overpower financial incentives?

Activists may call for divestment, but the county treasury is concerned about

the loss of revenue. KRCB’s Isabella Bloom has the story.

Since the protest, Vice President of GEO Group Kathy

Prizmich, who happens to live in Sonoma County, sent a letter to Hopkins,

Roseland families celebrated the start of the school year

with an annual backpack and school supply give away. But the atmosphere at this

year’s event was heavier than usual.

Mochila is a Spanish word for backpack – and in Santa Rosa

the annual Mochilada is a giveaway of packs full of school supplies for kids as

they start the new school year. Although families were excited to celebrate the

end of summer vacation, they were also anxious over immigration raids and the

recent violence targeting the Latinx community. KRCB’s Adia White has the

For the Grateful Dead, their long strange trip almost ended

at Woodstock.

After their disastrous performance at Woodstock, the

Grateful Dead almost dropped out of the music business entirely. Fifty years

later, Drummer Mickey Hart now laughs at himself for thinking that moment would

ruin his career. Hart spoke at the Schultz museum on August third, along with

his wife Caryl Hart and Grateful Dead historian Dennis McNally. In this short excerpt,

McNally asks Hart to describe what went wrong.
