On July 1st, the Sonoma County Library wiped all existing

fines and, from now on, they won’t be collecting your quarters for overdue

books, CDs and other materials.

Paying your library fines might not seem like a big deal. It

usually adds up to spare change. But earlier this month, the Sonoma County

Library decided to remove that burden from its patrons in the name of fairness.

KRCB’s Isabella Bloom reports on why the new policy was adopted.

legalization of medicinal marijuana. \ The Museum of Sonoma County opened a new

exhibition in June. It’s called Grass Roots: Cannabis from Prohibition to

Prescription. KRCB’s Adia White talked with Eric Stanley, the museum’s curator

of history, about why the story of cannabis is important to share now.

Protesters in Santa Rosa gathered in courthouse square on

Friday to advocate for families detained at the border.

Cities across the nation held “Lights for Liberty” vigils on

Friday night to protest the detention of undocumented children and the

separation of families at the border. About a hundred people showed up at

courthouse square in Santa Rosa to lend their voices to the cause. KRCB’s Adia

White has the report.

The California Hope crisis counseling program ended on June

30th. The program was funded by FEMA to help survivors cope with trauma after

the October wildfires. KRCB’s Adia White spoke with California Hope project

manager Wendy Wheelwright about the work that remains to be done.

Survivors can still seek free mental health counseling

through the Wildfire Mental Health Collaborative, Catholic Charities Disaster

Case Management and Sonoma Community Resilience Collaborative. For a list of

As deportations increase across the country, one Sonoma

County group has a plan to protect undocumented immigrants.

The Trump administration is planning immigration raids in

ten major cities across the U.S. starting Sunday. Local activist group, The

North Bay Organizing Project is training residents to become legal observers

and document any ICE activity in the area. KRCB’s Adia White attended a

training in Santa Rosa and has this report.
