Some parents and students using Google to access their Okaloosa or Santa Rosa County school’s website this Halloween week were being treated to a not-so-pleasant trick.Someone, it seems, has added a photo or two to those appearing in search results for the sites at several local schools.A couple of the images were head scratchers, like that of the bloated tiger posted on the Choctawhatchee High School page or the bloodied patch-eyed pirate at Fort Walton Beach High School’s page.Others were bizarre and a few were crude. A pair of amorous animated race cars was the featured photo Friday morning at the Meigs Middle School website, for instance. An image associated with the Kenwood Elementary’s site was apparently obscene enough that Google had removed it by Friday morning.The “photos” function at Pryor Middle School appears to have been targeted the hardest by the prankster or pranksters. A few Santa Rosa County schools, including Gulf Breeze High School and Oriole Beach Elementary, also appear to have been victimized.Steve Horton, the spokesman for the Okaloosa County School District, was aware of what had occurred and said the district had taken steps to have the images removed.Google creates the targeted pages without permission or validation by school districts, Horton said, and anyone can upload photos outside of school district control.

A homeless man used a brick and piece of lumber Wednesday to smash his way into a Shalimar business overnight, causing more than 500 dollars in damage for items worth $32.89, according to a press release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.OCSO deputies responded to the BP gas station at 1247 Eglin Parkway. around 1 a.m. and found the front door glass shattered.During a search, a deputy spotted 53-year-old Michael Tabor walking nearby openly carrying a 15 pack of Natural Ice beer still cold and covered in condensation.Tabor agreed to speak to the deputy, who also noted a large bulge in Tabor’s right sock near his ankle.Four packs of cigarettes in their original packaging were in Tabor’s sock, along with a freshly opened pack inside his shirt pocket. More cigarettes were found in his back pants pocket.Tabor admitted waiting near the gas station until the clerk left to break in and steal the items he wanted.After seeing the surveillance video, the clerk said she recognized Tabor as a regular customer.
