Sydney Plant, Master Storyteller and founder of the Podcast Women of Candor, is today's guest.  Sharing how she discovered that imbibing in happy hours with co-workers had evolved into alcoholism and what she did to recover. 

Sydney doesn't present as an alcoholic, but she says that's the trick, those struggling with wounds and addiction are often unseen because they appear "fine".  Her first realization came during an assignment during an improv class.  She was tasked with writing a blues song.  She wrote a song titled She Look Fine Blues.

Ughh! I actually hate hearing myself on this episode!  Thank God for Trenace! She's the founder of Real Women Rock and the guest host part two of this interview.  She reels me back in, but the reality is there was so much emotion in me as I told my story.

My guest today is Debra.  After 19 years of marriage, the death of one child, caring for their other two children- one of whom with a life threatening illness- Debra's husband came home and declared he was in love with his boss and leaving.  The cruelty of his actions, his attempt to excuse his behavior by citing the standard cheater's lie of "I never loved you" and "we were only together because of the kids" sent Debra into a mental free fall.  She attempted to take her life as a result.  

Hear her story detailing the heartbreak and mental struggle she endured.  But stay until the end and hear the triumphant part of this Phoenix of a woman's story.

In this episode I talk to a woman I've known for many years, Marcia.  She shares a story of how her marriage ended and the eventual discovery that her husband had been engaged in a swinging lifestyle.  He wanted her to come along as a pre-condition for saving the marriage.  Marcia decided 'no'. In this episode we talk about the wounds, specifically those caused by words, that hurt us and how often we conceal those wounds and pretend to be strong.

Concealing your own wounds by choice is fine. What makes you bitter and angry is when someone else imposes upon you their need for you to surprise what you're been through.

That suppression makes you unhealthy. It also causes you to build a wall and harden your heart just to keep it together because you can't function with the trauma you've dealt with. It's an exhausting and duplicitous lifestyle.
