  • Expat Life - Still Living Abroad After 12 Years
Expat life, mine has definitely had both it's ups and downs. After living abroad, I can say that I always feel like I'm learning something new, not only about where I am but also about myself and how my life abroad has changed over the past 12 years. In this expat podcast, we'll touch not only on expat problems but also I will quickly touch on living abroad as a digital nomad and why I am not a fan of it. There are people who know that working as a digital nomad is the right choice for them, but after getting to know myself even better on this expat journey, I know that becoming a digital nomad wouldn't be the right choice for me.... this is aside from just the difficulty of finding digital nomad jobs, or any sort of online job to begin with. The question is: " Is becoming an expatriate for everybody?" Maybe not, but is it worth trying anyway? Of course!

  • Cost of Living in Italy | Italian Cell Phone and Home Internet Providers
The cost of living in Italy is made up of many factors. In the last episode, I made about the cost of living in Italy we spoke about going out, but since so many of us have to stay at home, I thought why not talk about home internet in Italy and Italian cellphone service. When looking into life in Italy or living abroad anywhere, even if a phone and internet connection is something that can be quite mundane... I feel as though making sure that you have a solid internet connection is something worthwhile investing in while living abroad be able to keep in contact with family, to be able to use google translate, or even kick back for some youtube or Netflix at the end of the day. In this episode, we'll go over some prices you might be able to expect and also talk about some background information that may help you find those great deals on your own. Italian sim cards come with a wide range of monthly costs and what they offer. Without a doubt between Iliad, WindTre, Fastweb, ho mobile, PosteMobile and Vodafone Italy as well as other Italian Internet service providers and mobile phone carriers in Italy, you won't have any lack choices available to you.

  • What does it mean to be Italian-American vs Italian? - My Opinion After 3+ Years Living In Italy
What does it mean to be Italian-American vs Italian? I'm an Italian-American who has been living in Italy for more than three and a half years and I find myself facing this question regularly. Even traveling to Italy before moving to Italy was the beginning of this cultural exploration and opened my eyes to a very different perspective than what I grew up with. Especially since moving to Italy as an Italian-American dual citizen, the idea of what it really means to be Italian has been something I find myself delving into. Living in Italy is always an adventure no matter what your background is, but as an Italian American, you find there can be some unexpected educational moments teaching you what it means to be Italian vs what is considered Italian American. 'Are you an expat in Italy?' 'Are you an American expat in Italy?' 'Where is it that you fit in with your cultural identity?'

  • The Best Places For Expats To Live Abroad?
In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll go over some of the locations that I think would be the best places for expats to live abroad, work abroad or even retire abroad. This is something I receive messages/emails about from time to time, and I've been wanting to talk about the idea as if I were to start expat life over again... what would be the places that I would consider. Even though I'm the type of person who likes to live in smaller cities/towns and I live in Italy in a small city... I wanted to take the approach of what cities I would live in and what I think might be some of the best cities to live in the world for expats and some of the countries that I consider to be the top countries for expats and just overall the top places for expats to move abroad, live abroad and experience life abroad. In this list of what I would think of as some of the top cities to live in the world, I want to also discuss why I would consider them, and also talk about the places I wouldn't move to either. There are many more places to talk about than what I've mentioned in this video, and please keep in mind the cities are listed in no specific order.

  • Expat Expectations of Life in Italy
In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter we'll talk about preconceptions and expectations about what living in Italy holds. I know before moving to Italy I had plenty of misconceptions about being an expat living in Italy, and over time I've seen that many of those misconceptions have been shared by others. I've always heard things like "is Italy safe?" "is Naples safe?" is Rome safe?" and "are there pickpockets and do I have to be worried about scams in Italy?". Many people also come to Italy with expectations of Italian food based on what their countries version of Italian food can look like. As an American living abroad, I also enjoy hearing about the experiences of other expats who live in other countries and also enjoy comparing and contrasting our expat experiences. One particular subject I have found interesting is something that I also talk about in this video regarding expat life in Spain vs Italy.

  • What I Hate About Italy (PART 2)
In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter we'll go over some of the things that I hate about Italy... okay, I don't actually hate them, however, a few things that I do find frustrating in Italy and I know many Italians born in Italy also find them frustrating. All in all, I love living in Italy and that's why I continue to live here. Italian bureaucracy can come in various forms and in different areas of life but while you do find things that are very regulated and strict, you also find areas of life where things can be a little relaxed... sometimes too relaxed... As an expat in Italy, you may find cultural differences at times that can be frustrating, but of course, that's just part of life, things aren't always perfect. But, when thinking about moving to Italy, moving abroad, in general, or to live abroad, I think it's very important to consider not only the exciting and wonderful things like the Pizza, Pasta & Amore but also to consider the realities that you're getting yourself into.

  • Moving During Pandemic - Moving To Italy & Moving In Italy
In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll talk about moving during pandemic times, a subject that is very much on many people's minds. Some thinking about a move closer to home and some thinking about a move to Italy. I recently received a question from someone currently living in Milan who is considering a move to a smaller city not far from Milan. In this video, I wanted to also talk about my experience regarding moving during pandemic times and part of the motivation behind relocating. Moving to a new city or moving to a different country may not be logistically possible however that may not be a bad thing... maybe there are some important factors which could be reason enough not to move abroad or at all for the time being.

  • Cost of Living in Italy - Going Out in Italy
In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter we'll discuss how the cost of living in Italy can vary greatly depending on where in the country you may find yourself. This is one of the reasons why I've delayed making an episode on this subject for so long. In this video, I wanted to focus on going out to eat in Italy along with going out for drinks in Italy. A bit more of the "Pizza, Pasta and Amore" that I often refer to. This week after receiving a comment asking about this, I decided it was finally about time to start talking about the costs of living in Italy. In this first part I wanted to talk about something that I know that attracts people thinking about living in Italy and what makes up a wonderful part of life in Italy.

  • Moving To A Small Town - Life in Italy
In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we go a little bit deeper into a subject I've touched on in many of my videos. I've talked about finding a town that has a good balance between not being too small and not too large. But in this video, I wanted to go into more detail why moving to a small town in Italy is something that I prefer. When moving abroad there are many details to take into account and how small or large of a town/city can be a major consideration for many people when creating an expat life in Italy. For some, a small village in Italy could be the perfect place to relocate to, while for others moving to Milan or moving to Rome can be the perfect option for an expat in Italy. Moving to Italy for a small town life can be nice but also may come with drawbacks depending on where you end up, but or course a country life may just be the right choice if you're up for it.
