1. A child is in the hospital right now, after being hit by a car while walking to school this morning in Cudahy. The crash happened around 8 AM at the intersection of Ramsey & Swift. A nine-year-old was walking to J.E. Jones Elementary School and was hit. Investigators say the driver left the scene but was later taken into custody for "hit and run causing injury." The Cudahy Police Chief says the driver is an 89-year-old woman. Charges will be given to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. We're told the nine-year-old has multiple injuries and is now at Children's Hospital.
2. Jamaica is bracing for impact as Hurricane Melissa closes in. Cat-5 storm is inching along at just 7 miles per hour but packing winds of 185 miles per hour. The National Hurricane Center is warning that up to 40 inches of rain could fall in southern Hispaniola and Jamaica through Wednesday. A strict indoor shelter order is in effect until the storm has cleared. In eastern Cuba, up to 25 inches of rain could fall through Wednesday. And in the southeast Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, up to 10 inches of rain could fall through Wednesday night.
3. Amazon is cutting 14-thousand jobs primarily in its corporate offices. The company's CEO says it's all due to the advancements in Artificial Intelligence. A-I lessens the need for certain positions. Amazon execs say the workers impacted will have an opportunity to look for open roles in other areas of the company. This is one of the largest rounds of layoffs in the company's history. In a note to employees this morning, Amazon said the world is changing quickly and this generation of A-I is the most transformative technology we've seen since the internet.
