1. Today is the 35th day of the government shutdown. That means this shutdown is now tied as the longest in American history. It ties the shutdown during President Trump's first term. That one ended on Day 35. It's likely this one will surpass that and take the title. On this Day 35, air transportation is edging towards chaos with Thanksgiving looming. People whose SNAP food assistance didn’t come are crowding food banks. 700-thousand people here in Wisconsin rely on those benefits, known as FoodShare in our state.
2. The rich keep getting richer, or do they? As far as Tesla CEO and richest man alive Elon Musk goes at least one major investor has rejected Elon Musk’s trillion-dollar pay package: Bloomberg estimates his wealth at $477 billion. Here's some things you could do with that kind of money: several multinational corporations like ExxonMobil and Costco. You could host the Olympic Games approximately 80 times...you could build multiple International Space Stations you could educate every child on Earth for over a decade or cover the proposed 2026 City of Milwaukee budget for over 238 years!
3. Former Vice President Dick Cheney has died at the age of 84. Cheney's family says he died Monday of complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. Cheney was a hard-charging conservative who became one of the most powerful and polarizing Vice Presidents. He was also a leading advocate for the invasion of Iraq. Cheney led the armed forces as Defense Chief during the Persian Gulf War under President George 'H-W' Bush. He then returned to public life as Vice President under the younger Bush. Political analyst Larry Sabato reflects on Cheney's political life. In our most recent election, Cheney endorsed Kamala Harris for President. The Republican said Donald Trump could “never be trusted with power again.” Cheney say American citizens have a “duty” to prioritize the nation over partisan politics.
