  • NH #371: Nuclear Trainwreck: Radwaste Transport Dangers Exposed! - Donna Gilmore of San Onofre Safety

Nuclear Trainwreck? - San Onofre high level radioactive waste
lurks just above and behind Pacific Ocean high tide mark -
and proposed rail transport is a "mobile Chernobyl" disaster just waiting to happen.

    This Week's Featured Interview:
    • "Nuclear trainwreck" - Let's hope that's a metaphor, not a future reality!  Donna Gilmore is  founder and head of San Onofre Safety, a public resource for factual information about the serious safety issues with southern California's San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and the tons of highly radioactive nuclear waste stored smack up against the Pacific Ocean. Her findings on official assumptions about transport of nuclear waste from San Onofre and other nuclear reactors, especially via rail, are truly outrageous.  Come listen and get outraged.
Numnutz of the Week (for Outstanding Nuclear Boneheadedness):

When the Department of Energy (DOE) has community demands for radiation testing of plutonium contamination at Rocky Flats near Boulder, Colorado, DOE takes $400K of taxpayer money to hire a PR firm?!?  What - if you did your job in the first place, you wouldn't have to hire a spin doctor to make you look better than you are!

    This Week's Featured Interviews:

    • Dave Kraft is Executive Director  of Nuclear Energy Information Service, or NEIS, based in Chicago. Dave gives us a picture of what nuclear reactor shutdown and subsequent decommissioning means through the experience of just one of the communities that once welcomed the nuclear industry as the answer to their economic prayers.
    • Manna Jo Greene, executive director of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, has been involved in decades worth of battles regarding New York’s Indian Point nuclear reactors, located only 30 miles as the crow flies from midtown Manhattan. Manna Jo gets into the impact of Indian Point on the ecology of the Hudson River, the ongoing legal battles, and what needs to be done to protect the people of New York from its potential use as a terrorist target.

  • NH #369: Nuclear Power Plays: Colorado "Wildlife Refuge" at Plutonium-Contaminated Superfund Site, Gene Stone: San Onofre Real-Time Radiation Monitoring Possible!

Nuclear Power Play: Credentialed journalist Sam Husseini (The Nation)
    holding so-called "malicious item"
that got him forcibly ejected from Putin/Trump Helsinki press conference

    This Week's Featured Interviews:
    • Gene Stone, founder of Residents Organized for a Safe Environment, talks about a breakthrough in creating a real-time, inexpensive, publicly accessible radiation monitoring system for the "spent" fuel canisters at San Onofre... and everywhere else.
    • Alesya Casse of Candelas Glows, a group dealing with Rocky Flats in Arvada, Colorado, explains how local developers and the government are trying to "sell" the public on the plutonium-contaminated site re-imagined as a wildlife refuge.  Don't buy a home in Arvada without listening to this report!
Numnutz of the Week (for Outstanding Nuclear Boneheadedness):

Entergy, the slumlords of the nuclear industry, crying crocodile tears and claiming poverty over having to maintain a 10-mile emergency zone around the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.  And what's this -- they consider emergency planning for the eight million people in the area "unnecessary?"  Where do they live -- the moon?
