  • Spring Break Cleaning and Sexy Time Mishaps: ODO 140
Spring break is here and the boys are home, so what does that mean for me? It’s time to do some spring cleaning. To be fair, we also decided to make some fresh lemonade, (because Arizona.) In the news I’ve got another fake kidnapping, a questionable use of a t-shirt cannon, and what can only be described as the worst sexual experience imaginable. In Recommended Listening, the sexual news seems like the perfect opportunity to talk about this extra naughty podcast, it’s “Two 2 Girls, One Mic: The Porncast.”

    Spring Cleaning

It’s spring break, and around our house that means it’s time for spring cleaning. More accurately, it means that it’s the time when my wife tells me that I have to clean out the garage.
I should start by saying that my wife and I tend to be pack rats. It’s not because we don’t want to throw things out. We tend to pack things up when we move, and then stick those boxes in the new garage and never open them again. Last year my nephew and I spent an entire day pulling all of our boxes and tubs and junk out of the garage to organize it. We succeeded in cleaning things up and organizing them, but we still had a lot of old junk.
This time, my niece and nephew came over to help me pull all of the stuff out of the garage to get hauled away for good. We spent half the morning breaking down piles of old Amazon boxes, digging out toddler beds and cribs to throw out, and pulling out bags upon bags of my kids’ old clothes to take to Goodwill. After all of that we had a guy come and take it all away. And, for the first time in the 3 years, we were actually able to pull my wife’s car into the garage.

    Lemonade is hard

Springtime in Arizona also means that it’s time to harvest lemons. Incidentally, one of my wife’s co-workers has a lemon tree, and she has no problem sharing them with anybody willing to take them. This meant we acquired an entire grocery bag full of lemons, and had no clue really what to do with them.
At the end of the day, all we could come up with was make a ton of lemonade. We also learned that making good lemonade is much harder than just squeezing a lemon into a cup with some sugar and water. Maybe we didn’t have to dissolve the sugar into a syrup. And maybe I could have looked around in the garage for my old juicer instead of squeezing all of the lemons by hand. But neither of these things would have prepared us for the biggest problem we faced.
We would start pouring a cup of lemonade and before the glass was half full, it would just stop pouring. Then we discovered that the pulp screen was completely clogged with pulp so tiny it was barely visible. We ended up running the whole batch through a coffee filter just to get all of it out. That made all the difference in the clarity of that lemonade. Yeah, maybe we could have left all that stuff in there and gotten some more fiber in our beverage, but you can’t drink it if you can’t get it out of the pitcher.

  • Good Morning bad Decisions: ODO 139
Holy cow the news has so many people just making bad decisions. Dumb rappers, horrible mothers, and someone who just doesn’t care about that warning sign at the zoo. All that aside, I’ve had my hands full juggling home/work/podcast stuff this week, including taking our little Bug to Kindergarten orientation. We went to see “Welcome To Night Vale” live last week, and as such, this week’s featured podcast is their commentary show, “Good Morning Night Vale.”

  • Dirty Bits of Addictive Candy ODO 136
Just when I think I’ve escaped the most addictive candy based mobile game in history, my wife just has to pull me back in. But that’s not all. I’ve also got a few words to say about Peeps as well. In the news I have an ironic fire and another repeat offender. It’s the return of Martina Big in the Jackass of the Week. Finally, after what has got to be the longest wait of any planned feature, this week I am talking all about “The Dirty Bits Podcast.”

    Curse You Candy Crush!
You all remember Candy Crush, right? That highly addictive mobile game where you have to match up little candies and other such stuff. Recently I discovered that my wife still plays it. This would be perfectly fine if she hadn’t gotten stuck on a level and asked me to help her through it. Now my dumb ass has gone and downloaded it to my phone because, like I said, highly addictive.

And Then There Were The Peeps

When I was a kid, Peeps came in 2 flavors: yellow and pink. And guess what, they both just tasted like sugar coated marshmallows. That’s because that’s what they are. But this week I was at the grocery store and found not only a wide assortment of colors and shapes of Peeps. They now have flavors. What the actual hell?! Peeps don’t need flavors, especially sour watermelon or (hold on I’m trying not to gag) pancakes and syrup! On top of that, they now have Peeps Oreos and coffee creamer and who knows what else. Leave the Peeps alone!

  • Stupid, Busy, Strange: ODO 135
Man! When it rains, it pours. In this case, I’m flooded with new opportunities in voice acting for podcasts. Of course, that wont keep me from bitching about douchebag grooms and pre-infected tissues. And I swear I featured this show before, but I can’t remember when. I’m talking about “Poplar Cove.”

    I’ve got Voice Acting Work!
I have talked about my side business as a podcast editor and my aspirations as a voice actor in the past. I’ve even voiced some parts for a few other podcasts. Well, in the last couple days I have managed to get parts in 2 different audio drama podcasts.
Tuesday morning I responded to a facebook post looking for actors for a new audio drama podcast that is getting started. To my glee, I was picked to be a part of the show, and, at least in this first episode, I’m actually playing the lead. No pressure.
Later that night, Jocelyn Devore, creator of Poplar Cove, announced that she was beginning work on season 2 of the podcast (after waaaay too long) and is looking for voice actors. Now I have been poking and prodding her about season 2 for some time. I’ve also made my desire to be a part of the show very known. So when she said she was looking for voices, my hand shot right up, and she told me she’ll get with me this weekend about what she’s got for me. (Excuse me while I do a happy dance.)
No, neither of these roles are paying gigs. I don’t really care. These are opportunities to get to do voice acting on a scale I have yet to do, and to be a part of something awesome. And as a fan of Poplar Cove in particular I am extra excited to be any part of the new season.
Now to finish work on this podcast, record an interview, record all my lines for one show, oh yeah, and make dinner and go to work. Busy busy busy…

The Wayward Podcast is hosted by Kim Rhodes and Briana Buckmaster, famously of the CW show “Supernatural.” They talk about life, stress, family, sex, pain, and just about anything that may be tinkering around in their minds. They also do it all from Kim’s closet, because podcasting. I really do not have the words to express how amazing these women are and how great it is to hear a pair of famous actresses and friends being so real and down to Earth. It is so uplifting and comforting to see these amazing ladies be so vulnerable and real without being preachy or pretentious. I don’t care who you are or what kind of shows you listen to, you need to be listening to the Wayward Podcast. Trust me.

  • Playing With Chris Osborne: ODO 133
It's time for January's guest of the month, and starting the year off is Chris Osborne from "Play Comics" and the "Meddling Kids" podcasts. Of course we talk about Chris' shows, and because I can't keep my brain on straight we go off into an assortment of tangents. We get into podcasting and the issues with reaching out to guests, and Chris shares his pick for Recommended Listening, "Chrises On Infinite Earths."

Chris Osborne is the host of "Play Comics" and "Meddling Kids." He lives in South Carolina, if you want to stalk him. He went to culinary school, and like me, doesn't use those skills professionally. He's both a videogame and comic enthusiast, but will not ever claim to be an expert. He is married to Kayleigh, who is also his co-host on "Meddling Kids," so ladies back off. She will cut you.
I met Chris through one of the many podcasting groups on Facebook that we have in common. I tended to like and comment on many of his episode posts as he talks about comics and videogames, and I'm kind of a nerd and fan. After some time of this, Chris reached out to me to be a guest on "Play Comics." I joined him on episode 33 to talk about "Spiderman and X-Men: Arcade's Revenge." I freely admit it's not a great game, but I still enjoy it. Blame the nostalgia. In the time since, we have become very good friends, and now will chat on a regular basis. Not bad for just liking some guy's Facebook post eh?

    -Play Comics-

    https://playcomics.com/
"I was sitting around with my wife one day watching some Marvel cartoons and we started talking about how the shows were condensing story lines and characters when I had a realization. I’d grown up playing all of these video games about super heroes without reading much of the comics. So being the giant dork that I am, I decided that I needed to go back and look at the games I’d grown up on and see how faithful they stayed to the source material. Then I figured I should take it further. Instead of just looking at the games I’d grown up on, why not look at everything? So the idea for Play Comics was formed."

    -Meddling Kids-
    https://meddlingkidspod.com/

Meddling Kids is a show that looks at Scooby-Doo. But it’s not just a show recap, you can find that anywhere. We aim to look at the series and see why it has stood the test of time so much better than other cartoons of the same age, how it was able to avoid some of the pitfalls that the other cartoons fell into, that sort of thing. Maybe even find a new appreciation for Scrappy, and I’m not joking about that at all by the way.

  • Bronchitis Sucks: ODO 132
I’ve been sick. That’s about it. Long story short, I had a wicked cough last week that was kicking my ass and I just didn’t have the energy to record. Fast forward to this Tuesday and I wake up with a very familiar pain. My bronchitis had flared up and I could hardly get out of bed. And I get around to the news I promised last week.

    Bronchitis Is A Bitch

So, I spent about 15 years as a restaurant manager. In that time I ingested more than my fair share of smoke, grease, and toxic cleaning vapors. The side effect of that was that it jacked up my lungs and I began suffering from regular bouts with bronchitis. I’ve been out of that industry for nearly 5 years now, but the damage has been done. Every year, usually in the winter, I get a flare up. Technically I made it through 2018 without one, but it’s barely 3 weeks in to 2019 and here we are.
Fortunately after having dealt with this for so many years, I know the signs of a real flare up and I know which treatments work on me and which ones don’t. I have had just about every cough medicine the doctors could give me, and of all of them, the only thing that works are these tiny gold gel things called Tessalon. I’ve been given codeine before and the only way that stuff keeps you from coughing is by knocking you out cold.
The last time I had a flare up, the notorious cough of November 2017 during NAPODPOMO, I was left with 2 cracked ribs. This time, literally at the first sign of trouble, namely a stabbing pain in my back and chest, we hit the web Dr. and got my medications set up and started that morning. By the evening I was no longer in pain. I’m not gonna lie, the meds suck. I have to take 3 different medications and use an inhaler, but this is the first time I haven’t been laid over by this for a week. And as much as it sucks to have to go back to work so soon, I’d rather have to do that, than be strung out in bed coughing up my lungs.

Logan Paul Claims He Plans To “Go Gay” For A Month
    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/logan-paul-go-gay-march-angry-twitter_us_5c39292fe4b01c93e009f6bb

Professional idiot and YouTuber, Logan Paul recently said on his podcast that, among other monthly challenges he has planned, he intends to “go gay” for the month of March. Naturally, this lead to more than a little heat thrown his way on social media from the LGBTQ community and anyone with more than 2 brain cells. In his defense, (and believe me the thought of defending him makes me gag) he later admitted that it was a poor choice of words and invited a member of GLAAD to come on his show to discuss it. I would say that it is an honest mistake of a thing to say, but this guy has a whole team of people who work for him. Somewhere somebody had to say, “Dude people are gonna get pissed, maybe you should cut that out.” But then again, this is the same jackass who filmed a dead body in a forest, released it to his YouTube channel, AND STILL ASKED PEOPLE TO LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE IN IT!!

So if you know me, you know that I am what could be described as a HEAVY coffee drinker. Honestly I'm a 2 pots a day kind of guy. But, believe it or not, I don't only drink coffee. Despite this, every year at holidays and birthdays, invariably, someone buys me a bag of coffee. This year it happened to be my wife, because when in doubt, buy Adam coffee. But this time she got something extra special. For Yule, she bought me two different varieties of coffee from Death Wish Coffee Co. She got me both the original, and the Valhalla Java Odinforce Blend. Plus for my birthday she got me a nice adjustable burr grinder to go with them.

"A podcaster collaboration creating short form audio drama with a real play style show playing Fiasco."

-I had heard of this Rolling Misadventures, naturally, because I am a friend of the host, Derek, from his other show Sometimes Geek. As I've never been a fan of tabletop roll playing games, I didn't really both listening to it. That is until he came on the show and described it. If you don't know what Fiasco is, it really doesn't matter. Understanding the "game" element of the show is not necessary to enjoy it, unlike so many other real play type shows where you may be completely lost. Since they complete a story in only 2 episodes, it is very easy to just jump right in to a new story without having to listen back to a year of episodes to follow the story. To me it is just like listening to a series of improv scenes that happen to make up a single story. Then the game injects different rules for them to follow in those scenes to progress the story. I have really gotten to enjoy this way more than I expected to. If you dig improv comedy storytelling, you need to check out this podcast.
