  • GoT Summer Blues ODO 149
It’s the last week of school for my boys, and summer is right around the corner. In the news, I’ve got a few ways to really waste your money. I’ve got an update on last weekend’s Livestream For The Cure. And, in Recommended Listening, we’re revisiting a show that has announced their end. It’s time to say goodbye to More Gooder Than.

    Summer Is Coming

It’s the last week of school for my boys. Soon enough, instead of having my 2 younger boys home, I will have all 4 of my boys at home all day. I’ve talked before about how much it messes with our daily routine when any of the boys or my wife are home during the day. Now it’s full time at home and it’s a whole new routine.
On top of that, we’re gonna have the 3 older boys all in a summer prep camp for 2 weeks starting in June. This is gonna help get them ready for next year and help Bug get used to what it’s like going to school at all. Plus, it will help get our youngest used to life without his brother home all day. It’s definitely gonna be a new experience.

-Covered Bus Stop Bench Installed On Road With No Bus Service
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-48307285
A town in the UK spent £6,000 to install a covered bus stop on a road that does not have bus service. In their defense, there was service on that road when the work was commissioned, but in the mean time, that particular route was changed and that road was left busless.
*Next time they might want to work on their inter-departmental communication.

-Man Who Spent Nearly $4,000 Lowering His Car Wants Town To Pay Because He Can’t Go Over Speed Bumps
    https://jalopnik.com/guy-who-blew-4-000-lowering-his-car-is-demanding-his-t-1834825086
A man in Limerick, Ireland spent almost $4000 to have his Volkswagen lowered to have only a 4 inch ground clearance. The problem is that the town on his route to work has recently installed 6 inch high speed bumps (the city claims that they are only 3 inches) throughout the town. This has caused over $2500 in damages to his car and forced him to change his route to one that adds another 30 miles a day to his drive. Now he wants the city council to pay for the damages.
*He voluntarily lowered his car to a point that he can’t go over a simple speed bump, and yet it’s the city’s fault that his car was damaged. Way to go dumbass.

-People Getting Therapy To Deal With GoT Ending
    https://www.iheart.com/content/2019-05-19-game-of-thrones-therapy-is-a-real-thing-being-offered-after-the-finale/
People are actually getting therapy to deal with the ending of Game Of Thrones. It’s a TV show!! The argument goes that people become very attached to the characters and stories in a show over the course of 8 years and may feel a sense of loss when it’s over.
    * Look, I get attached to the stories and may get emotional over storylines on a TV show, but I can separate a fictional television broadcast from real people and stories. If a TV show has become so important to your life that you need to seek therapy over a series finale, you probably needed to seek therapy loooonnng before this.

    Livestream For The Cure
    http://livestreamforthecure.com

I just want to say congratulations to The Epic Film Guys and everyone else who was involved in this years Livestream For The Cure. Not only did they reach their goal of $7500 by day 2, they crushed it with a 3 day total of $8300. This does not include any donations made through the end of June or merchandise sales that have yet to be added. This also doesn’t account for the fact that CRI will be matching all donations made through the end of June which will bring the total over $16,000.
Way to go everyone. I’m really looking forward to next year. Let’s see $10,000!!

    Goodbye More Gooder Than
    http://mgtpodcast.com/
After 3 years, the crew from More Gooder Than have announced that they will be ending the show after main episode 70. They have said that they are making arrangements for the show to stay available after they end it so that you will still be able to go back and listen. According to the hosts, the end comes simply as a result of work/ life/ podcast balance. Sometimes something’s gotta give, and in most cases, your podcast is the first thing on the chopping block.
So long MGT. I’m sure the “Sacred Grove” will live on without you.

  • Why So Serious ODO 148
Ever have one of those days, where you brain just fritzes out and you don’t remember what you were gonna say? That’s me today. I do have some weird news though, including some creative political ads, an ironic act of arson, and some people who are just too sensitive about stuff. Lastly, it’s time for the 3rd Annual Livestream For The Cure.

    Brain Fry

Have you ever had one of those days where you just completely forget what you were supposed to be doing? That’s me today. I know I had a few things to talk about for the show this week, but for the life of me I can’t remember any of it. I should probably really start writing these things down. Then again, if I did that, then you wouldn’t get these sort of episodes. Let’s see where this goes together. Shall we?
    Ignorance Was Bliss
I was on Episode 134 of Ignorance Was Bliss. Officially we talked about having Olympic medals for asshattery. Then again, this is me we’re talking about so the conversation went all over the place. Take a listen for yourself.

*It could be worse. There could have been a display of sex toys in the window.

It’s time for the third annual Livestream for the Cure for the Cancer Research Institute. Last year our generous fans and listeners and podcast partners helped us raise over $5,000 for Cancer Research. After this was doubled by CRI we ended up with well over $10,000. We also raised $780 for Perry and Lindsay Johnson after we had reached our goal to help them with their medical bills and financial issues related to Perry’s cancer diagnosis.
The 3rd Annual Livestream for the Cure will be held from May 17th through the 19th, and we’ll be live for FORTY hours as we try to hit our biggest goal yet and raise $7,500. You can find the event live at https://twitch.tv/epicfilmguys and will include dozens of fellow content creators and podcasters who are joining us to reach this common goal.
We will be live for 40 hours from the following times (all are EST):

    May 17th: 10:00 AM to 2:00 AM
    May 18th: 10:00 AM to 2:00 AM

  • Dont Eat That!: ODO 147
So you know how I mentioned my wife being sick during Foodstock? Now that plague has spread across our boys. Speaking of plague, the news brings tales of why you should be more careful about what you eat. And finally, in Recommended Listening, its time to learn something cool with “Your Brain On Facts.”
    http://odddadoutpodcast.com/don't-eat-that!-odo-147/

    Another Round Of Plague

A few weeks ago my wife came down with what I can only call a viciously wicked cough paired with a 101 degree fever. It wasn’t really full blown flu, just the fever and a throat scraping, lung removing cough. Of course, sickness never stays put in a house with 4 kids and it has slowly been creeping through them. First, Damien missed almost a whole week of school. Now I’ve had Bug and Sam sleeping in my bed and coughing their heads off for the last couple nights.
Somehow I’ve managed to avoid actually catching this thing for the time being. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

Canadian Doctors Warn Women To Stop Eating Placenta
    https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2019/05/01/eating-placenta-warning-canada_a_23720074/

In recent years there has been a trend of women consuming the placenta from their babies after giving birth. Supporters claim a number of health benefits including reducing post-partum depression and increased lactation. Actual doctors have been saying for years that there are no identified benefits, and there’s actually a noticeable risk of infection. Placenta can contain Streptococcus bacteria and viruses such as HIV and hepatitis.

    https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/food/894251-cocoa-pebbles-class-action-says-cereal-doesnt-contain-real-cocoa/

People are suing the makers of the various “Pebbles” cereals because the labeling and marketing say that they are made with “real cocoa.” The claimants interpret this as meaning that the cereals are made with pure unadulterated cocoa powder. According to the ingredient label, the cereals are made with “cocoa processed with alkali” which, according to those complaining, is not “real cocoa.”

  • Lets Try This Again: ODO 146
It's funny how, on a week where all of my topics are revisiting things I've talked about in the past, I would also end up re-recording the episode. I get in to going to Foodstock again last weekend and how that all went down. And, in Recommended Listening I pull out a "in case you missed it" for my recent appearance on a previously featured show, "Millennial Pagan Podcast."

    Ep. 24 Gatekeeping and Inclusion
    https://paganpod.podbean.com/e/ep-24-gatekeeping-and-inclusion/
Millennial Pagan Podcast is a voice to the growing number of Pagan Millennials and our brand of Witchcraft, Magic, Practice, and Worship.
Our goal is to explore the future of Paganism through the tough and controversial topics that effect Pagans, Witches, Polytheists, and Occultists in our ever-changing world. Promoting a peaceful understanding of Paganism in media.

I recently appeared on episode 24 of the Millennial Pagan Podcast to talk about the issue of gatekeeping and inclusion in the pagan community. Incidentally, this episode actually turned out to be the 1 year anniversary of the show. I had a great time getting to hang out with them and getting to speak more publicly about my personal beliefs.
Typically, the hosts, Autumn Wolf and Jera Stone will invite various experts in different sections of the pagan community to share in their knowledge. In this case, they invited me, (because I shared a meme, I shit you not) to share my opinions on the issue of some people trying to control the space and dictate who and what “qualifies” as pagan. Cliff’s notes version: “Don’t tell me how to witch.” Long version, people need to stop telling others that they are or are not a pagan or witch just because they do or do not do any particular thing. It’s ok for “Stacey” to buy her sage at Whole Foods. It’s ok to worship how you want. “You do you Boo.”

Another show where I didn't come up with a theme for the news, the news did that all by itself. • Live From "Betty" w/ Lisa and Sam: ODO 141
The March Guests Of The Month are Lisa and Sam from I Shake My Head with Lisa and Sam.
Like all of my guests, we talk a little about podcasting, how they do their show, our pod-friends, and how we became friends in the first place.
In classic Lisa and Sam fashion, we geek out over donuts, spring training baseball, we get into Lisa’s hangups about food, and I make a case for why I should be their designated “Merican,” or at least their “Mexcan-Merican.” As always, tangents abound. For their podcast recommendation they suggest a fellow Canadian podcast, “Nooks and Crannies.”

I Shake My Head w/ Lisa and Sam
    https://ismhead.podbean.com/

“I Shake My Head” follows the decades long friendship of two goofy women from Saskatoon who find themselves having some of their best conversations in the car! Yes, they actually record in Sam’s car, “Betty.” It’s not especially deep, or political. But, they don’t want to make you think. They just want to make you laugh and be the least stressful part of your day.
