  • Cereals, Stoners, and Surprise Mother Effers: ODO 75
I'll admit it. I love cereal. I especially love those sugar cereals from my childhood. So when General Mills announced that they are going to give us back the original recipe Trix. I got really excited. How excited? Excited enough to devote an entire segment to breakfast cereal. This week's news brings a recall from Death Wish Coffee, a lawsuit from an armed robbery suspect, and a tie for J.A.W. with a couple a people too inebriated to function. As promised last week, this week's Recommended Listening feature goes to my fellow Surprise Mofo, Mike Jolitz.

  • Trying... Very Trying: MDC 31
Lately it seems like the older boys have been getting to be bigger and bigger pains. We've repeatedly caught them sneaking around early in the morning, stealing treats from the cabinets, and outright lying to us. Maybe it's because they are in a new school, and are picking up bad habits from other kids. Maybe it's because they seem to be getting bullied by a couple other boys on the playground. Either way, it's been trying our patience for a few weeks now as they come home with increasingly jerky attitudes. We're open to any suggestions to remedy said jerkyness.

On a happier note (at least for her) ReAnna renewed her library card! Let's all remember, she's going to school to be a librarian, so a trip to the library is fun times... fun... times. Of course this means stories about going to the library that have way more excitement than stories about going to the library should, bless her heart.

In a similar kind of connected vein, we've gotten pretty hooked on the NBC show "Midnight, Texas" which is based on the book series by Charlaine Harris. Naturally, after the season ended, ReAnna had to see if the books lined up with the show. So, on her most recent trip to the library, she borrowed the audio book of the first novel in the series. Its been fun listening to the book being read and hearing the differences in the characters compared to the show. We definitely can agree on one thing for sure, Lemuel is better on the show. Looks like commuter podcast listening is gonna have to take a break until we finish this 8-disk story.

  • 5 A-Holes and An Irish Couch Potato: ODO 74
Doing a segment shuffle this week. I decide to lead with the news, including: a brave proctologist, an artist's prank that people are still falling for, and a guy who wants a Masters Degree without any of the work. Then I go on a bit of a rant about my taste in alcohol, or more accurately why is it that people give me crap over not really drinking and never doing drugs. Finally, I wrap things up with A-hole number 6 (or is it 7?) Chris the Mole Man from The Couch Potato Files.

    -WEIRD NEWS-

-Two Florida Men Try To Steal A Power Pole After Hurricane Irma
Two Florida men were arrested for "allegedly" trying to steal a power pole after Hurricane Irma. By "allegedly" I mean they were found with a pole strapped to their truck.

    -Doctor Gives Himself A Colonoscopy
A proctologist gave himself a colonoscopy to understand the pain he was inflicting on his patients. I've never had one, but I've been told having a hose shoved up your backside with a camera on it, isn't the most pleasant thing in the world.

    -Piero Manzoni's "Artist's Sh!t" Sells For Up To $300,000
Artist Piero Manzoni canned and sold his own poop to post- WWII art snobs to prove that they would buy anything if you told them it was art. And people are still buying his cans today.

-N.C. Woman Claims To Make A Spray That Attracts Bigfoot
For only $7 a bottle you can buy a spray that a woman claims will attract any Bigfoot within a 1 1/2 mile radius. It has yet to work.

-Toronto Man Upset His $8000, Exam-Free, Master's Degree Is Fake
A man paid $8000 so he could have a Master's Degree that used his life experience to determine that he earned the degree instead of actually studying or attending classes or taking tests. Yet he was surprised to find out it was a fake degree.

  • Parent Teacher Conferences and Pizza Delivery: ODO 73
Part of my job as the daytime parent at home is going to school functions. Most annoying of these is parent/teacher conferences. Maybe I'm a little harsh on them, but I'll leave that for you to decide. In the News: Hurricane Irma hitting Florida brought out all sorts of crazies #BecauseFlorida. Plus, a few really dumb thieves, a jackass who wants to marry his computer, and a pizza guy who may be my new spirit animal on "The Pizza Podcast."

Hope you had a happy Labor Day, or just a good weekend in general. Now that we have reached the pre-holiday season it's time to start thinking about holiday decorations, starting with Halloween. Somehow my wife managed to sneak her way into buying a bunch of new spooky things to decorate our house. For those new to the show, Reanna was born and raised in South Texas, in the exact area recently ravaged by Hurricane Harvey. • MDC 29: One "Sick" Show
This episode is literally "sick." And by literally, I mean literally. Both of us are in the middle of fighting off some sort of crud that the boys managed to bring home on the first week back to school. That being said we actually end up spending most of our time talking about all the wonder drugs we've taken to fight off this crap.

  • C U Next Tuesday: ODO 71
This week I got both a good laugh and a painful lesson from listening to She Podcasts. Warning, don't teach your Mexican co-worker what  "See You Next Tuesday" means. Spoilers: it doesn't end well. I've also got eclipse news, dead bodies in strange places, a workplace affair gone horribly wrong, and by far the worst way to find out your spouse is cheating. All that, and I revisit a previous feature for it's spinoff podcast, Movie Maintenance Presents.

     -WEIRD NEWS-

-Christian Radio Host Says Eclipse Is A Sign Of The Work Of Satan
Because the Bible describes the Sun and Moon as "Signs" this guy thinks that the Moon covering up the Sun is a sign that God is being covered up by the works of Satan, or something like that.

-Idiot Scientist Tries to Destroy ‘Finding Nemo’ by Applying Science to a Cartoon
French scientists released research showing how male clown-fish, like Marlin in "Finding Nemo," will change from male to female if their mate dies. Also clown-fish apparently never leave their homes.

-Artist Plays Dead At Tourist Spots To Protest Selfies
Artist Stephanie Rose has decided to oppose selfie culture in a "special" way. She takes what she's dubbed "StefDies." She drops, face down, dead in random locations, some major tourist spots, and has a picture taken. She says that people need to stop being part of the camera and be start being part of the picture.

-NYC Subway Workers Want The Dead Bodies Out of the Break Room
If somebody dies in a NYC subway, the policy is to get the body removed quickly and get business back up and running ASAP. Apparently this also means that when they bag and tag a body, they dump it in the nearest, out of public view, area around. This often ends up being the subway workers' break rooms or random storage closets.

-Officer Fired And Arrested After Getting Pregnant From Inmate
A former corrections officer is 6 months pregnant and facing 10 years in prison on rape and corruption charges after having an affair with an inmate for over a year.

     -JACKASS OF THE WEEK-

-Illinois Man Books Prostitute, Too Bad It Was His Wife
An Illinois man was left in shock when the prostitute he booked through his favorite web service turned out to be his wife. She was equally shocked to find out of his habit of hiring prostitutes.

  • MDC 28 School Changes and Shopping Meltdowns
We're back! After an unplanned 3 month hiatus, we have returned to share our tales of our summer break, and changes in the new school year. In so many words, we didn't think, when we started this podcast, about the time commitment that would be necessary every week(ish) to produce the show. That being said, between the busy season at work, summer vacation, household duties, ReAnna going to school, and limited home time to do all of those things, the podcast kinda has to take a backseat to everything else in our lives. But we're back, hopefully more regularly.
First off , we chat about the bomb dropped on us by the boys school the day before we left for our summer vacation back to Texas. Along with the Principal leaving at the end of last year, the Kindergarten teacher, among others, left over the summer and the Montessori program that they were in was ended. Without that program we had no reason to keep them in that school, so we went through the task of finding another quality school closer to home. What an adventure that was.
Recently, ReAnna has gone gluten-free. No it's not for any hip fad diet reasons. Her medication for her  hypothyroidism has the side effect of gluten sensitivity. Lets just say that when you tell a woman who can just sit and eat a whole loaf of fresh bread in one sitting that she has to cut off the gluten, she gets a little depressed. The good news, it hasn't been as diet crippling as we thought. (Spoilers: good Mexican food is almost all gluten free.)
We go on a bit about our newfound love of online grocery pre-order. We do almost all major shopping from our computer and just pick it up at a scheduled time. We even did back to school that way. At the same time, ReAnna has a minor meltdown talking about why she hates shopping, especially at Wal-Mart. (Honestly it's worth listening just to hear that part.)

Thanks to Gareth from "Gareth's Random Ramblings" for the twitter message that inspired us to get off our butts and get the show going again.
