  • Weird is World Wide: ODO 70
This week I've had some great interactions with other podcasters, surprisingly in my area. One little twitter follow from a podcaster in my town lead to a rabbit hole of podcast discovery from surprisingly big names in my area. The news this week is coming from all around the world, from Australia to Shanghai. The featured podcast this week is a little self serving since it's my other show, "Mom and Dad Cuss." Why recommend my own show? Because it's funny and my wife is on it too.

     -WEIRD NEWS-

Shanghai Man Uses Ambulance As Ride Share Vehicle
A logistics driver decided that he would use the ambulance he was delivering to make some extra cash as a ride-share vehicle along the way. Does this classify as an upgraded vehicle option?

Amsterdam Apartment Features Private Kitchen, But No Cooking Allowed
An ad for a 2 room apartment in Amsterdam says the unit features a fully equipped private kitchen except for a cooktop, because cooking is banned "by regulations" in the unit. On the plus side, not being able to cook means never having to wash dishes.

    Saudi Singer Arrested for Dabbing
Apparently dabbing, that idiotic dance move, is banned in Saudi Arabia. The government claims that the move glorifies drug use. So using it in a public is enough to get you arrested. (Can we start that rule in America?)

Chinese Restaurant Gives Bra Size Discounts
A shrimp restaurant in China came under fire for putting up signs offering discounts to ladies based on bust size. 5% for an A-cup, up to 65% for a G-cup. Yeah it's sexist, but if they did something like that for Chinese men, they would probably all get the 5% discount. *wink wink*

     -JACKASS OF THE WEEK-
Rich Guy Buys Special Cage To Protect His Rolls-Royce, Then Wrecks Into His Own Cage
An Australian man bought a Rolls-Royce, and had a custom cage built to protect it from damage. Unfortunately he lacked the driving skill to actually pull the car in to the cage and repeatedly hit the it, until the car had to be towed away for repairs. The moral of the story, people who own Rolls-Royces should pay somebody to drive them around.

  • School Stress and Stupidity w/ ReAnna: ODO 69
After a month long break caused by our family vacation, a dead computer, and a newly mobile toddler beating down the studio door, I'm back, and my wife, ReAnna, decided to join me and talk about some of the stuff that we dealt with at the beginning of the summer. We also shared some crazy Texas news stories from our vacation, a very devoted doctor, and a whole mess of people doing stupid stuff. In "Recommended Listening" I've got the slightly deceptively named "Nerds With Words."

  • Vacation Packing and "American" News: ODO 68
Between packing up for our regular family trek back to Texas and the 4th of July holiday, I'm a little behind this week. Somehow I managed to put an American spin on all the news stories. And boy did it take a spin to get some of them to fit that description. Using sausages to find dogs, PETA hating on bacon, fad diets, and dads playing baseball: that all sounds American, right?

  • This Heat Is Frying Brain Cells: ODO 67
Summer 2017 has started with a BANG! There's been record heat waves across the US and Europe. The heat in Phoenix actually left planes grounded at the airport. It looks like the heat may be frying some people's brain cells a bit as dumb crime seems to be ticking up. From shoplifters at Wal-Mart to hackers at the CIA, nobody is using their brains much right now. This week's feature goes to a another weird news show I've been turned on to, "The Crazy Town Podcast."

    -B.S. FROM THE NEWS-

    Record Heat Wave For Phoenix
This passed week has had at least 4 straight days with temperatures between 115 and 120 degrees. The weather maps actually nearly ran out of colors due to the high temperatures.

Several dozen flights had to be cancelled out of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport because the daily highs were too hot for many planes to fly.

Heat Wave In Europe Has Men In Skirts
English Boys Wear Skirts To School To Protest Shorts Ban In Dress Code
Nearly 50 boys chose to wear skirts to school because the school dress code does not allow for boys to wear shorts. The prep school uniform does allow girls to wear skirts, and so the boys decided to wear the skirts to protest the injustice of the dress code. Apparently a male member of the school staff arrived wearing a skirt after being sent home for wearing shorts.

French Bus Drivers Wear Skirts In Heat Because Shorts Are Banned.
A group of male bus drivers in Nantes, France showed up to work in skirts because company policy does not allow them to wear shorts on hot days. Skirts, on the other hand, are allowed, and the dress code doesn't specifically state that only women can wear them.

Computer Glitch Warns Of An Earthquake Over 90 Years Too Late
While researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey were making adjustments to their computer records, a computer glitch interpreted the changes as a current threat and sent out a series of automated warnings for a magnitude 6.8 quake. The quake in question actually occurred in June of 1925. A string of automated systems with local news outlets resulted in articles and tweets being generated warning residents of the threat before the USGS could retract the warnings and explain.

    -CRIME-

    Shoplifter Gets Busted By Batman
A Fort Worth, TX man was caught shoplifting DVDs from a Wal-Mart by an off-duty police officer dressed as Batman. Among the DVDs was the Lego Batman Movie. After getting a ticket, he asked the "Batman" for a selfie.

NH Bill Let Pregnant Women Get Away With Murder
The New Hampshire legislature recently amended a law that would have given pregnant women a loophole to commit murder. The law allowed for charges to be brought against anybody causing the death of a fetus over 20 weeks after conception. The wording of a protection for mothers seeking abortions kept pregnant mothers from being charged with murder, but didn't explicitly state that it was of the fetus. This technically meant a pregnant woman could murder somebody and not be charged with anything. The amended law added in a line specifying the murder of the fetus.

CIA Contractors Hack Vending Machines For Free Snacks
A group of CIA contractors were fired after it was discovered that they had hacked the agency vending machines and gotten away with over $3000 in free snacks over a 6 month period.

Man Assumed Dead After Attempting To Have Sex With a Crocodile While On Meth Binge.
Australian authorities are looking for a 26 year old man after friends reported that he was dragged underwater by a crocodile. The friends claimed that he had been on a binge of "Ice" and was trying to have sex with the croc when it grabbed him.

White German Woman Now “Black” After Chemical Tanning
Model, Martina Big, who has become "famous" for her extreme breast implants, is now turning herself "black" by way of chemical tanning. She receives hormone injections which increase her body's production of melanin and give her a darker complexion. • Where Does Chocolate Milk Come From? ODO 66
Hope you had a good Father's Day. This week's news brings on a few past stories including an ironic twist for a bank robber. -RIP Adam West-

Adam West, star of the 1960's Batman TV series has passed away at 88 due to leukemia. To many he is still viewed as the original and greatest Batman, not for his acting, but for the impact that his iteration of the character had on our childhoods. I, like many, grew up watching reruns of Batman every day as a kid. My brother and I would tie bedsheets around our necks and pretend to fight crime. We'd slide down "batpoles" at the playground. Every time we used our go cart we would start off with "Atomic batteries to power. Turbines to speed. Roger. Ready to move out." In the years since he has had a long and successful career. I don't know of many people who have made a voice acting career out almost exclusively out of playing themselves, but he did it. He may have played Catman on Fairly Odd Parents and spent years as Mayor West on Family Guy, but to those of us who donned bedsheets, he will always be the greatest man to ever wear the cowl, and the hero all of us wanted to be. RIP Adam West.
