  • ODO 53 Corned Beef and Carjackers
This Friday is St Patrick's Day. Incidentally, it's also my wedding anniversary. Of course I have no clue what I'm gonna do for that. But I do have good news for all those Irish Catholics worried about eating corned beef on friday. Plus, emoji snakes, pink water, blowjob apps and more. In Recommended Listening, I'm getting extra weird with "Bizarre States."

  • MDC 24: Home Improvement
No plans for this week, just chatting about things. This week we just jump in to how things are going around the house. We discuss taxes, health and diet, and have a small discussion about the gender pay gap.

It's tax time! It's the time of year some people dread, and others depend on for household plans. This year we are using our tax return to do some improvements around the house. We are finally paying off our van and getting the A/C fixed in it, among other things. We purchased a new Tuft & Needle mattress. And we are replacing our beaten up dining table booth seat with a set of refurbished church pews.

On a more personal side, ReAnna has officially completed her first class on her quest to gain her Librarian degree with an "A." She's also made some steps toward improving her health, including finding a new doctor and getting on thyroid medication. In her first week alone, her energy level is way up, and she has managed to get her Dr Pepper consumption down to a single can a day, without any ill effects.

We have a small discussion about a recent Wells Fargo study into the gender pay gap and how it seems greatly affected by the overwhelming cost of childcare. Personally we flip that convention on it's head and it doesn't really bother us. ReAnna is the primary breadwinner in our house.

Finally, for the month of March the podcasting community is working to spread the word about podcasts to others using #TryPod. As such, we decided to suggest the podcast that got ReAnna into them in the first place, "Welcome to Night Vale." Although it is now considered by many to be a more mainstream podcast, it is definitely a show for a particular kind of humor. At the same time, it is easily the best show to ease a new listener into podcasts. It's very sci-fi books on tape style, which is more digestible to new listeners.

  • ODO 52: March Movie Madness
    MARCH MOVIE MADNESS

This week I'm devoting the entire show to the awesome slate of films dropping this month. Between the superhero epic of "Logan" and the batshit crazy "The Belko Experiment" this is shaping up to be the best march movie season ever. Keeping with the movie theme, this week's Recommended Listening is another Sanspants Radio gem, "Movie Maintenance- Because some movies just need fixing."

    GET OUT- February 24, 2017
Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford). At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

    LOGAN- March 3, 2017
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND- March 10, 2017
A diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST- March 17, 2017
An adaptation of the classic fairy-tale about a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love.

THE BELKO EXPERIMENT- March 17, 2017
The Belko Experiment explores a twisted social experiment, in which a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata and ordered by an unknown voice on an intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.

    POWER RANGERS- March 24, 2017
Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

Completely by coincidence, all my news stories this week are "work" related . There are some questionably awesome stories, and then there's the idiots. Whether it's just poor judgment or doing something monumentally stupid, that group are now experts at how to lose a job. Some even went the extra mile and got arrested.

  • ODO 50: Is It Spring Already
    IS IT SPRING ALREADY

It's only February, yet I've already had to have the a/c running in my house for weeks. I've had to get back into full scale yard work. And I'm starting to see the evil death critters from hell, scorpions, around the house again. I don't want it to be spring yet. On top of that, in AZ we have spring training baseball. It may be great for the local economy, but it absolutely sucks for traffic. I just want winter to go on for a little longer.

  • ODO 49: I Suck at Valentines
Valentine's Day is here so I've committed to focusing the entire episode on the holiday. The problem with that is, in a very general way, I'm no good at Valentine's.
It's not that I am not romantic. The problem comes mostly in that I'm too practical. I dislike giving flowers because they barely last a few days before dying. Chocolate seems very impersonal. There's a million different heart shaped boxes of candy out there, and everybody has particulars about box chocolates. Don't believe me, just look at any variety box of candy after a couple days. You'll find a lot of the same things left behind.
Ultimately my failure boils down to a simple fact: I'm not that creative about gifts and the good ones are STUPID expensive.

    Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks

Married couple, Annaleis and Neil C live together in Northern California with their pets and egos. Both have a wide variety of interests including animal welfare, video games, comic books, reading, music, Jamaica, podcasting, travel, NASCAR, and other crap. These two started podcasting because they couldn't seem to get enough of their own voices. Hearing the beautiful sounds made by their mouths, they were inspired to allow everyone to experience the joy, so they began sharing their sweet vocal love with the masses...

Don't let the name and logo fool you. This is, at its most basic, a couple's comedy show. Their theme song says it perfectly, "They only talk about themselves, I figure I'd warn ya." Honestly, I'm ok with that. These two may just sit around talking about "whatever" as a couple, but it works because they're funny. Considering we do a similar thing on "Mom and Dad Cuss" how could I really have a problem with it. You can't fake the authenticity of a married couple picking on each other and fighting with the dog's chew toys. It's like hanging out with your cool married friends every week.

  • MDC 23: Valentines and The Price of Love
With Valentine's Day approaching we just couldn't avoid discussing what we think of the most "loving" of holidays. In a word, it's expensive.
We are not the type of people that gripe about Valentine's being too commercialized. We enjoy buying sweet gifts for each other, but holy cow are these things expensive. ReAnna found a coffee cup with flowers in it being sold for $50 on one site. She also found a $600 flower arrangement that included 100 roses. That may be a large flower arrangement, but $600!? Really!

In our case, we are very practical in what we like to give each other. ReAnna's go-to Valentine gift is one of the grocery store candy bouquet baskets. After all, what guy wouldn't want a basket full of candy and DVDs? Flowers may be the standard to get the wife, but when you have cats, that can lead to chewed up roses in the morning. While Sherri's Berries, and Edible Arrangements have been tried in the past, when your wife isn't a big fan of chocolate, you are pretty limited. So that is the ongoing battle of the day. What do you get the wife that wants everything but doesn't like much, without spending too much money? Lemme know if you figure that one out.

Do you think that being married gives you more of an obligation to make the big impressive purchases for Valentine's Day? We seem to be split on the subject, but with the same reasoning. As a man, there is a great deal of social pressure to have a great gift throughout the dating period, but less after marriage other than demand from your wife. (And ReAnna can do a lot of gift demanding. J/K) But for ReAnna sees that social pressure more after marriage, when all the office is looking to see who got the best gift delivered, It is less about getting the best gift, rather more about everybody else seeing it. Same argument, different perspective.

Let's not forget about all the kids in school at this time of year. Nowadays kids have to bring a gender neutral/ non specific card for every student in class, without writing any names. Back in the day mom would make you sit down with the entire class list and hand write every name of every classmate on each card and envelope with fitting gender cards. Some teachers suggest not doing anything for Valentine's Day, and that is fine. It is a pain trying to pick out cards for a 2nd grader anyway.

-Thank you to everyone who listened to the previous "bonus" episode, "The Incident." We know it was definitely not the type of show you're used to from us, but we felt that it was time that we shared the story with our listeners. Plus we wanted to do it without being a total buzzkill at Valentine's. We promise we wont be getting that dark and heavy again. Thank you for all the comments and messages, we appreciate it all. And again, thank you for listening. -

  • ODO 48: Adams Rants- Big Dumb Ape
I had a very upsetting encounter at work with what can only be described as a bully. A great big gorilla looking guy decided that he wanted to cuss me out and push me around for being professional and doing my job. As much as I wanted to cuss him out in return, my professionalism beat out my temper. Unfortunately I'm just not a very intimidating looking person and I've kinda been pushed around for most of my life.

  • ODO: The Incident
On February 13, 2010 Adam was the victim of an "aggravated robbery" in which he was held at gunpoint and beaten over the head with a bat. After 7 years we are now sharing the most complete version of this story as it is a major part of who we both are today. It is not pretty, it is not funny. We make a few jokes to relieve tension, but it is still quite a heavy and dark tale to tell for both of us. We intentionally avoided names out of respect to others involved, and did not get into the court case involved, although it has already been settled.
